I dont think its ok for a man to marry more then once. If a has more then one wife in other religions and customs its ok right??? But if it was a woman to have more then one husband would that be considered ok?? so y should it be different for men?

Exactly my point, many questions will be raised upon her character and wat not, but if a man marries multiple times he isnt considered a prostitute. Just like if a man can marry and loads of times and love both his wifes, A woman can also do that love both her husbands and wat not, but then she would be considered as that. this is mens world😃men make and distroy rules <<<<<<<< True that.

But men come out of women, we make u so stop telling us wat wen can and cant do!😉😆 coz behind every man is a woman, if we can make u, we can also destroy😃

labib, i'd also like you to give some rational reasons as to why a men would want to marry more than one woman and as to why the wives would consent to that as i can't think of any logical reason as of now to support the idea.

Polygamy existed in ancient societies as necessity to boost population. Life spans were short and manpower was needed to defend the city states. One man with several wives can beget several children, thereby increasing the success ratio of continuing lineage and boosting population. Also since women were considered the weaker sex, there was a culture of married men taking widowed or orphaned women to offer them sanctuary.

In modern times we do not have the need to beget children as much as in ancient times. Women can live independently in society and do not need male support for rights. So polygamy is not really needed.

Although, I do not think it should be illegal or immoral for any reason if all parties are willing.

But heck, I have a hard time living with myself, why a man would want more than one women beats me.

There is a good reason for a lot of things. For example the wife who shot her cheating husband and his mistress had very good reason to do so. However, somewhere we draw the line. Its not always the most logical. most moral or most correct line, its just a line that society in general is comfortable with. This line shifts with time and place.

It needs all kinds in the world - the liberals and the conservatives to find that line and keep working at it.

I don't know about others, but I, for one, will always support a woman marrying multiple men if I support its reverse version, i.e. a man marrying multiple women (as long as the conditions needed/required are fulfilled). If I do not support one, I would not support the other as well. Besides, my support for polygamous/polyandrous relation had got a lot more to do with respect for personal choice and freedom than religious/cultural issues.

You are right on women being targeted for this, though. But to think about it, marrying multiple men isn't and wouldn't be the only thing women will be oppressed and discriminated against. Think about a heterosexual couple who had premarital sex. Who amongst them will be the one to be targeted and mocked in the society? Who will be the one to be tortured and tormented in the society? The man will be looked upon as a hero, and the woman will be seen as a slut. Think about a women getting pregnant before marriage; how will the society react to this? The man will be forgotten from the story, as if he had no part to play in it, while the woman will be tormented till the end. Even in extremely liberal societies, women are not given the equal status as a man – yeah, legally they have it, but socially men are always looked upon as a higher creature compared to women. I am not trying to put up a veil over all people here and say that we all agree with this given lifestyle; but this is the truth, and something which had gone on for centuries.

The point I am trying to make here is that women had always been targeted for things/actions even if the men had equal part to play in it. Therefore society targeting and agonizing women for marrying multiple men (when they aren't giving a damn when men are doing the same thing) makes it no more right than them targeting and torturing the women in case of premarital sex, premarital pregnancy, etc, leaving the men completely free, who had an equal role to play [t]here. I do not mind with the society demeaning both the parties from getting into such a relationship (assuming they consider it as wrong or morally unethical) but demeaning just the women while praising the men is a purely sexist attitude, and a downright hypocrisy on their part. I would never like to be part of such a bigoted society which would give rights to some selected fellow human beings and look at them with one eye, while snatching away the rights of some other human beings and looking at them with a completely different eye.
