Ok how many people would be able to succesfully and joyfully navigate IF in pure Hindi. Read in hindi, type in hindi. Ok how many people will get Hindi OS and Hindi keyboard.

Once at least 25% of the Indian PC's are Hindi OS and Hindi keyboard and at least 25% of Indian based websites are in pure Hindi - then we will be going somewhere.

India is a linguistically rich country and we know there are many languages spoken all over the country. There is absolutely nothing wrong in not learning Hindi.
The very beauty of India is its diversity. It is true that Hindi is the most spoken language in India followed by Telgu and Tamil, there is no such thing as a national language. Each state in India has its own official language.
Let us speak whatever language that rolls off our tongue easily and focus more on development, peace and harmony.

i agree india has always value diversity and harmony in diversity something that is difficult to attain in other states. i don't see a need in changing that. india is unique and beautiful in that way that people are able to respect each other and have a sense of nationality despite the lack of national language.

just imagine every Indian insisting on speaking his own dialect & refusing to speak in any other as he wanted to preserhis own language ! Each would speak but who would listen ? A perfect babel !
That would B the real test of unity in diversity 😉

Lakshmi - a very quick question - why English? What makes you choose English over Hindi( considering that you feel just accepting a language spoken in another part of the country as a sign of their domination, what makes you choose English which was not born in India but in a foreign land whose people coined the word colonisation, and executed it perfectly wherever they could) .
Hindi is the regional language of five different states in India - Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh. Mind you, all these states also have many regional languages with different dialects which they consider as their native language, but overall the states recognise Hindi as their main language. Also, it is spoken by a large number of people in Bihar, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Punjab and even in Andhra Pradesh.
Which means Hindi is the ONLY language which is officially spoken in more than one state, and fluently in more than 10 states and by default becomes the language of the majority of people.
Hindi is also the close Marathi, Gujrati, Urdu, Himachali and Punjabi.
Hence my question - why English and not Hindi?

Agree with every word said there Minnieji. Aren't people more likely to 'forget their language' while speaking english rather than Hindi? Why english and not Hindi? So people don't like Hindi cos it is spoken by a lot of their own country but like english cos it is spoken by the west? What hypocrisy..
Btw, Maharashtra may not be a state officially declared as one that speaks Hindi but I can assure you that majority of people will speak in Hindi to one another.

BTW, this very attitude of non-Marathi ... particularly Hindi speaking people coming to Maharashtra is one of the root causes of the recent trouble.😡
Please do not try to just ignore the issue by labeling it as created by politically motivated parties. Although there could be a political angle to it, the root cause and the main reason why it became such a sensitive issue is because it exists in Maharashtra. Hindi is slowly replacing Marathi in all outside communication. This has started happening after independance and on a mass scale more recently due to uncontrolled migration of North Indian people in last decade or so. I am not against migration; but I am against this taking for granted attitude of Hindi speaking (and Hindi pampering) people who just assume that Hindi is and should be understood by all. I would strongly urge all Hindi speakers to stop this and help India stay united, not just politically but culturally as well.
