CHAPTER 23
"What do you mean by you have no other way. Are you going to marry some stranger now?"
Adarsh said in disbelief
"No, I can never think of doing that. We will find a way out, but for the time being I have to accompany him to Chennai. He appears to be in a real bad mood and I cannot take any risks."
Swadheenta tried to explain
"I know the reason of his bad mood"
Adarsh said. Then he explained to her everything that happened since last night.
"So Mam knows that we were planning to separate them. Oh no..now I am gonna be fired"
Swadheenta said anxiously
"Fired? Among all things, its your job that you are worried about? Do you know how mad she was at us? I doubt if she will agree to our marriage after this."
Adarsh said in annoyance
"You are right, and I don't know what Appa is going to do once he finds out. Do you think Mam will tell him?"
Swadheenta asked
"I don't know. I think she is really angry right now and not in a mood to talk to anyone. But once she cools down she might try to clear the air with him."
Adarsh observed
"If that happens I am sure Appa is going to kill you first and then me."
Swadheenta sighed.
"Calm down, there will be a solution for sure. You just make sure that you don't meet this boy that your Appa has chosen for you...I am hanging up now"
Adarsh disconnected the call.
In Chennai.
Swadheenta was to meet Jeevan today. Jeevan was the boy her Appa had chosen for her. She had still not been able to gather up enough courage to turn down the alliance. He was an ex student of Appa. And Appa adored him. Appa would be heartbroken if she disagrees to marry him. Even Grandma was so fond of Jeevan. They still did not know about Adarsh. She was relieved in a way that Suhasini Mam has not told Appa anything about it. Infact Mam and Appa hadn't talked to each other after that night. But she should not hide it any longer. If her family comes to know about her affair from a third person it would hurt them more. She would have to talk to them soon. But how? Swadheenta found herself trapped from all sides.
"How is my girl doing?"
Swadheenta was surprised to find her mother standing behind her.
"Oh Amma, I am sorry, I didn't realize you were here"
Swadheenta said, giving her mother a hug.
"Yes.. since Jeevan and his family will be coming today, your Grandma wanted me to be present. Else you know they will be asking all sorts of questions."
Revathi explained.
"Ya, I am glad you came"
Swadheenta said, trying to smile.
Revathy sensed something was wrong.
"Are you feeling nervous ? I can see that you haven't even changed your clothes yet. They will be here soon."
She said
"Amma, I don't know how to say this.."
Swadheenta could not complete her sentence as there was a knock on the door.
"How long are you going to take Swadheenta ? They are already on their way"
Mr. Ramakrishnan said from the other side.
"Give me a few minutes Appa"
Swadheenta said.
After Mr. Ramakrishnan had left Revathy gently put her hand on Swadheenta's shoulder and said,
"Swadheenta, you are a grown up mature woman now. And you have every right to take the important decisions in your life. Your Grandma, your Appa and I will be happy only if you are happy. If there is anything that has been bothering you, feel free to share it with us."
Swadheenta looked at her and nodded
Meanwhile in Delhi,
Suhasini was busy working in her office when Abhay entered.
"What are you doing here at this time. Weren't you supposed to accompany your wife and mother in law for their window shopping?"
Suhasini asked furrowing her brows.
"Yes Mom, but I needed to discuss something really important so I made some excuse."
Abhay said hesitantly
"So now you are having to make excuses to meet your own mother. Great going."
Suhasini said sarcastically.
" Mom, I know you are still angry at us but please don't act so difficult. We are really sorry for what happened. Please forgive us."
Abhay pleaded
"This was the important discussion for which you came?"
Suhasini asked
"Actually Mom, I wanted to talk about Adarsh Bhai and Swadheenta...Mom, they really love each other. But they can't get together if you don't give your consent"
"Did you take my consent before plotting against us ? Then why do you need my consent now? Tell them that both of them are adults now and are free to do anything with their lives."
Saying this Suhasini took a file and walked out. Outside she saw Adarsh standing. She looked at him and then at Abhay. She understood the brothers had come together. Adarsh had sent Abhay to convince her. Suhasini felt a little bad looking at their disappointed faces but she was in no mood to forgive them so easily. She had spoiled them enough. It was time they started acting a bit more mature.
The bothers watched their mother walk away angrily. Abhay walked up to Adarsh and asked,
"Sometimes she can be real difficult. What now?"
"Now only one person can convince her...Dad"
Adarsh remarked thoughtfully
There in Chennai,
The guests had arrived. Mr. Ramakrishnan was very happy to see Jeevan. He knew that with Jeevan his daughter would be in safe hands. He was about to go and call Swadheenta when Revathy came and whispered something in his ears. Swadheenta wanted to talk to her parents before meeting Jeevan and his family. Mr. Ramakrishnan frowned. What was this girl up to now?
"Amma, Appa...I have been meaning to tell this to you since long but could not gather up enough courage. But I have to do this today else it would be too late."
Swadheenta said hesitantly
"What is it?"
Mr. Rmakrishnan asked. He could sense the ominous tone of his daughter's statement.
"I know Jeevan is a wonderful person but Appa I cannot marry him. I am in love with someone else. I am sorry I could not keep my promise of not getting into any serious relationship. Please forgive me Appa."
Swadheenta said lowering her gaze.
"And may I know who that person is?"
Mr. Ramakrishnan was finding it difficult to keep his cool.
Swadheenta took a glass of water and gave it to her father.
"Please have some water first."
She was worried if he would be able to take the shock.
"I am fine Swadheenta, tell me his name"
Mr. Ramakrishnan said sternly
"Adarsh...Adarsh Sinha"
