Suhasini had informed her family about inviting Swadheenta for lunch. None of them suspected anything as they felt it was natural since Mr. Rmamakrishnan was here. However, they knew that they had to be extra cautious as Suhasini was very perceptive.
While they were having lunch Suhasini kept noticing Swadheenta and Adarsh from the corner of her eye. She could not get any clues from their behaviour.
"Adarsh, you remember the Bundelas ?"
Suhasini suddenly asked her son.
"Yes, I once met them at the chief minister's daughter's wedding. But why?"
Adarsh could not figure out the context
"Well, Mr. Bundela has proposed his daughter's alliance for you..."
Suhasini was stopped midway by the sound of a spoon dropping. It was Simmi. The news had really startled her.
"Relax Simmi, I am not marrying him off right away. Let the two of them meet first. If they like each other we will move ahead with the alliance. Adarsh, is that ok with you?"
Suhasini asked turning towards her son.
Adarsh did not know what to answer. How could Mom decide without consulting him? What was the use of meeting that girl if he had no intention of marrying her.
Seeing him silent Suhasini said,
"Oh...I am really sorry, I should not have raised this topic when we have guests. That's fine, we will talk about it later."
Everyone finished the rest of the lunch in silence.
Swadheenta left soon after lunch. Adarsh saw her leaving. He wondered if she was angry with him. She knew his situation. He hoped she understood him. He got an urgent call from the secretariat and therefore could not go after her. Also Mom would become suspiscious if she saw him doing that.
Suhasini was sitting quietly in her study. The events during the lunch replaying in her mind. She had seen the restless anticipation in Swadheenta's face when she had asked Adarsh if there was a girl in his life. Suhasini was almost certain that there was something between the two..but were they really serious about their relationship? She decided to talk to Adarsh directly when he comes home in the evening.
"What are you going to do now? Will you meet the girl"
Swadheenta asked
Adarsh, Abhay and Swadheenta were sitting in a park after office and discussing their next course of action.
"Their is no excuse to decline. Other than telling her about us."
Adarsh said
"That would look so selfish. What will she think about us?"
Swadheenta said hopelessly
"It would have been so much better if they had parted ways on their own. All our plans till now have failed"
Abhay rued
Suddenly Adarsh got a message on his phone. He read it and then said,
"It is from Mom. She is at Dad's place. He is having high fever."
"Oh no... did she call a doctor? We should go and check on him"
Abhay said
"Yes, Mom has asked me to stay with Dad for the night "
Adarsh said.
"Does Mr. Ramakrishnan know that Mom is there?"
Abhay asked.
"Why are you asking that question?"
Swadheenta asked
"Please don't mind Swadheenta but your Dad gets suspiscious about small things. I wonder how is he okay with this"
Abhay remarked
Before Swadheenta could say anything Adarsh scolded him
"Shut up Abhay. There is nothing to be suspiscious here. Let us go and meet Dad now."
The brothers were on their way to Manohar's house. Abhay was driving the car. Adarsh looked at his watch and then said to his brother,
"It is already 9. Why are you driving so slow?"
Abhay looked at his brother and said,
"I am letting Mom and Dad spend some time together. Who knows..."
"Not again Abhay. Mom is going to be mad at both of us if we don't reach there soon."
Adarsh chided him.
Suddenly the car came to a screeching halt.
"Oh no..the car broke down"
Abhay said anxiously.
"What !"
Adarsh looked at his brother in disbelief.
Meanwhile at Sinha House
Simmi went to Mr. Ramakrishnan to call him for dinner. He saw her and asked about Suhasini.
Simmi wasn't sure whether she should tell him the truth. Mom should have informed him before going. She hated being put into such a sticky situation. Seeing her fumble, Mr. Ramakrishnan got suspiscious.
"Is there something wrong? Is she alright?"
"Ya..Ya, she is fine. It's just that Dad is sick and she has gone to check on him"
Simmi thought it was better to tell the truth.
"Oh...but it has been quite long. Did she tell you when she will be back?"
Mr. Ramakrishan looked a bit annoyed.
"She told she will leave for home as soon as Adarsh Bhaiya reaches there."
Simmi informed. Then she added,
"Shall I bring your food here?"
"No..no need. I am not hungry."
Mr. Ramakrishnan said.
Simmi didn't know what else to say. She quietly left the room. It was already past 10 and Mom was still not here. Suddenly she heard Mr. Ramakrishnan's agitated voice,
"You could have told me that you were going there...Yes, Simmi told me...I don't understand why you have to stay there so long, don't tell me that Adarsh hasn't reached yet...You are giving me reasons to doubt...Fine then..."
The call got disconnected from the other side. Simmi could hear Mr. Ramakrishnan banging his phone on the table. Uh-oh, they seemed to have had an ugly fight.
