CHAPTER 14
"Hello, Swadheenta."Adarsh had called her to inform that he was fine
"Adarsh, are you alright ? You know I got so scared when all of a sudden you stopped talking"Swadheenta asked anxiously
"Yes, I am fine. Thanks for calling up Abhay."Adarsh replied
"
Yeah, I first thought of calling Suhasini Mam but she would get suspicious so I decided to call Abhay instead"Swadheenta explained.
"Swadheenta. I needed to discuss something important about our relationship. When are you coming back ?"Adarsh asked
"Please Adarsh, I have already explained to you that our relationship has no future. It will be better if we put an end to it now itself. It would be better for both of us"Swadheenta said with a hopelessness in her voice
"No Swadheenta, I am not going to give up so easily. I cannot think of my life without you. I have a plan. Infact both Abhay and Simmi are in it with me. We just need your help to execute it. That is why we need to meet"Adarsh was adamant
"What plan are you talking about ? Listen Adarsh I am really very tired. I cannot make any sense of what you are saying. Can we talk about it some other time. Appa will be discharged in a couple of days. I will have to stay here for at least two weeks. Guess we can talk only after that. Bye for now. Take good care of yourself"Saying this , she put the phone down
Adarsh was disappointed at Swadheenta's lack of enthusiasm. He consoled himself thinking that she has been going through a lot and he must give her some space to breathe. However , he knew that these two weeks were going to be like two years for him. He sighed and put off the lights.
The next morning, Suhasini came to his room with his breakfast. As she was applying butter to the toast, Adarsh asked,
"So how is Viju, I mean Mr. Vijay ?"
Suhasini looked at him , surprised.
"How did you know that he is not well?""Oh , I had no idea about it. I asked just like that. What happened to him ?"Adarsh tried to appear as genuine as possible
"He had a heart attack yesterday. He is better now. I called up Swadheenta in the morning to inquire about his health"Suhasini replied
"So Vijaykumar is Swadheenta's Dad? Does she know about it?"Adarsh tried to act surprised
"Well, actually no. Not yet. I wanted to tell her but Viju stopped me. He is worried about how she will react. She is his only child. He is in a legal separation with his wife. He feels that Swadheenta expects them to reunite. Knowing about our relationship would disappoint her."Suhasini explained
"But this is two timing."Adarsh said
"Stop it Adarsh. I don't want to hear a word against Viju. It is his wife who was two timing on him. Viju has hidden this from his daughter so that she does not get hurt"Suhasini raised her voice
"I am sorry Mom. But how can you be so sure? He might be deceiving you. If there is nothing between them, they ought to have been divorced"Adarsh was trying his best to discourage her. He knew that Swadheenta's parents were separated 10 years back. But the rest of the details were unknown to him.
"You should know Adarsh that it is not so easy to deceive me. I have seen the truth in his eyes. As for why they are still not divorced, that is because of his mother who is very fond of Revathy. She has made him promise that they would not get divorced as long as she is alive"Suhasini explained and then asked in a suspiscious tone,
"Why do I feel that you don't want us to be together?"
"Oh no Mom, it's nothing like that. I just want the best for you."Adarsh fumbled. He felt as if she could see what was going on inside his head. He shouldn't have broached this topic in front of his mother at this stage. He was way too unprepared to escape her hawk eyes.
"I know son. You are very protective of me and don't want me to get hurt. But don't worry, I am perfectly capable of handling my problems. And Viju is a great guy,with a heart of gold. He won't deceive me"Suhasini said , smiling affectionately at her son.
Then as if talking to herself, she said,
"The only thing I feel guilty about is hiding this fact from Swadheenta. Everytime I see her in the office, I feel like going and disclosing everything to her, but then we would have to tell her about her mother too. That would shatter her completely. Such a lovely girl, my heart goes out to her. You know if I had a daughter, I would have liked her to be just like Swadheenta"Adarsh spit out the juice from his mouth on hearing his mother's wish.
"What happened Adarsh ? Is everything all right ?"Suhasini was startled at his reaction
"Ah, yes Mom. Nnno..Mom. I mean don't worry, I am fine"Adarsh fumbled
"What yes, no ? I think the accident had a very bad effect on your brain. I shall call Dr. Singh and ask him to come and check you up as early as possible. God, these boys will not let me have a moment of peace."Saying this she went out with her phone.
Adarsh let out a sigh of relief when his mother left. Even in his worst nightmares he could not imagine Swadheenta as his sister. He fervently prayed to God not to grant his mother her wish.
"
So did you find anything that we can use?"Abhay asked his brother. He was having a day off and him and Simmi had come Adarsh to discuss their plan. They had made sure that Suhasini was off to her office.
"Nope, nothing that can be of any use to us."Adarsh said . Then he told them about what he learned about Mr. Ramakrishnan from Suhasini.
"Hmm. This is a useful information. I think we can put it to good use in future"Simmi said thoughtfully
"And how do we do that ?"Abhay asked
"Patience guys, patience. I will tell you everything when the time comes. I will just need to contact Mom's detective agency"Simmi replied
"What ? Your Mom runs a detective agency ? That's news to me."
Abhay raised his eyebrows in disbelief"No, silly. It is the detective agency whose services she avails."Simmi tried to clear his confusion
"For what ? Finding out who is dating whom? Tell me honestly Simmi, didn't she send them behind my mother ?"Abhay was exasperated at his mother in law's behaviour
"Oh baby, you are changing the topic. We should concentrate on our plan now"Simmi tried to calm him down
"I am warning you Simmi, keep your mother out of this plan. You are not going to say a single word about it to her, else I will not be able to save you from Mom's wrath next time."Abhay said sternly
"Calm down Abhay, I am sure she has understood. Now tell me how do we go about it. What will be our first step ? Until Swadheenta comes back, we won't be able to do anything on the Vijaykumar front. I tried to work on Mom a bit, but it had the opposite effect."Adarsh said disappointingly
"Hmm...let us first ennumerate the causes of breakup. Then we will see which one can be applied."Saying this Abhay went to the study table and took out a pen and writing pad.
"So, first cause - When the girl feels that the boy does not give her enough time"Abhay said , while jotting it down
"Are you serious ? This is so..."Adarsh could not believe what his brother was doing
"Bhai, don't you know the importance of making notes ? It not only helps you remember all the points but also helps clear your thoughts. Ok, so second cause - when the girl takes the guy for granted"Abhay concentrated on his job
"
Whatever, Mom does not take anyone for granted. And of late she has become even more understanding."Adarsh said , not liking his Mom's change for the better
"Alright, third point - When the girl uses the guy like an ATM machine and leaves him once he becomes bankrupt"Abhay wrote it down.
Just then , Simmi went and snatched the writing pad from him and said , fuming
"So, everytime it is the girl's fault ? You guys are the most innocent souls on earth.""No baby, I was going to write points on your favour too"Abhay said meekly
"No, I will write that. Let me see, yes, when the boy gets drunk at a friend's party and calls up the girl only to apply all the cuss words he just learnt on her"Simmi wrote down.
"Did someone do that to you? Tell me his name. I am going to..."Abhay all of a sudden got protective of his wife
"Get out of my room you two, I got a headache with your constant bickering."Adarsh said , irritated
"Yes, when they are constantly bickering over nothing in particular. Simmi , note it down"Abhay said , ignoring Adarsh's order
Adarsh shook his head. He decided to leave them alone and went to the balcony with his phone. He opened the file containing Swadheenta's pictures and started scrolling down. He stopped at his favourite picture of hers, one in which she was dressed in a light pink Anarkali and running in gay abandon. He stared at it for a long time and said,
"Why Swadheenta? Why did you come and brighten up my life only to dump me into this bottomless pit of despair , from where I cannot see a single ray of hope? Why are there so many obstacles in our way ? Please show me some light."Suddenly he remembered something and his face lighted up. He smiled and hurried inside to tell Abhay and Simmi
P.S. - This chapter became a bit lengthy. I think I got carried away with Abhay Simmi banter😆. Hope you people were not bored.
