Wait, Ayodhya was Kaushal's Rajdhani, And there are different sources where I have read that Luv founded present day Lahore and why won't he rule there? The kingdom was divided among 8 sons so it doens't make sense that they have to rule the nearby part only, even lord Krishna went to present day Dwarika leaving Mathura, so what does regional closeness have to do with a particular kingdom and usually people establishes their own kingdom at the places where there is no ruler
There were actually 2 "Kaushal"s. One was Kosala, whose capital was Ayodhya: we know the region today as Avadh. The other was Kaushal, or Dakshin Kaushal, (today's Chattisgarh) which was Kaushalya-mata's maikya. It is said that she had no brothers, therefore Dasharath, Bharat & Rama ruled it after her marriage
The sources I've seen all say that Kush succeeded Rama as the ruler of Ayodhya: calling him a Punjabi (much less a Pakistani) is ridiculous! Here is how the kingdom was divided:
- Shatrughan's sons Subahu & Shatrughatee inherited Mathura and Vidisha (in MP), which Shatrughan had conquered from Lavanasura
- Lakshman's sons Angad and Chandraketu inherited 2 kingdoms in Karupadhadesh on the foothills of the Himalayas. It was conquered by Rama & Lakshman on their behalf
- Bharat's sons Taksha & Pushkal inherited 2 kingdoms in Gandhara. Story here is that Bharat's cousin Budhajit went to Rama & asked him to conquer the land of the Gandharvas. Rama sent Bharat, Taksha & Pushkal to do this. There was a fierce war which ended when Bharat used a divyastra to destroy the Gandharvas. He then built 2 cities - Takshashila for Taksha & Pushkalavati for Pushkal, gave it to them & returned to Ayodhya
- When Rama decided to retire, he split his own kingdom using the Sarayu as the border b/w Kush & Luv. Kush got Kushavati, a brand new city and the kingdom on the south that included Ayodhya. Luv got the territory in the north, w/ his capital at Shravasti. Later, Kush moved his capital back to Ayodhya. His dynasty lasted until the Kurukshetra war
These are the kingdoms Rama's sons & nephews all got when it was time for him to return to Vaikuntha dham
Punjabis who want to claim members of the Raghukul should be satisfied w/ Taksha & Pushkal, rather than claim that Kush & Luv got kingdoms there. One more thing: Valmiki lived at Chitrakoot, never moved to Punjab
