Broad named in development squad

Broad has been a regular feature in the England one-day side

Stuart Broad is one of 16 players named in an England development squad to train at home and in India this winter.

Many of the young players named in the England Performance Programme have already played at international level, including Broad and Ravi Bopara.

Chairman of selectors David Graveney said squad members could still feature in December's Test tour to Sri Lanka.

The squad will get together in Loughborough at the end of October followed by four weeks in India.

Several places have yet to be finalised for the Test tour to Sri Lanka, with the wicket-keeping and spin bowling departments far from settled.

Broad, Bopara and Phil Mustard - one of three wicket-keepers in the group - have all featured on the current one-day tour of Sri Lanka.

Chris Schofield, 29 on 6 October, is the oldest player in the party, and was part of the recent ICC World Twenty20 squad in South Africa.

Graveney said: "The Test squad for the Sri Lanka Test series will not be finalised until after the end of the current ODI series and a number of players within this EPP squad will be considered by the selectors for potential inclusion in the Test Squad."

England Performance Programme squad: Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Tim Ambrose (Warwickshire), Ravi Bopara (Essex), Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire), Stuart Broad (Leicestershire), Steven Davies (Worcestershire), Joe Denly (Kent), James Hildreth (Somerset), Phil Mustard (Durham), Graham Onions (Durham), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Chris Schofield (Surrey), James Tredwell (Kent), Chris Tremlett (Hampshire), Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire), Luke Wright (Sussex).
