BITTER SWEET RETURN TO CRICKET

After the Barbados debacle, Bollywood picks up the bat to aid an NGO fighting diabetes

After the Indian team's dismally horrible performance at the ICC World Cup, tinsel town's men and women, who swear by the willow, are taking to the field. This time around they're teaming up with actors, musicians and former cricketers from Pakistan for a friendly match to raise funds for a NGO, Diabetic Education and Awareness (DEA). The five-match series kickstarts at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on April 6. The team that leaves for the match this evening includes Sunil Shetty, Govinda, Mithun Chakaraborty, Dino Morea, Rahul Bose, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Apoorva Lakhia, Gulshan Grover, Aditya Panscholi, Rahul Dev, Ishaa Koppikar, Neha Dhupia, Kashmera Shah and Payal Rohatgi.

Interestingly, Wasim Akram who was detected with diabetes at the peak of his career is the face of the series. The former cricketer now spends time in educating children and adults suffering from the disease. Says Sunil Shetty, "The match is a fundraiser for Wasim Akram's diabetic centre. It's part of an extensive awareness programme." Adds Dino Morea, "There are alarming rates of youngsters suffering from diabetes today. A healthy lifestyle can keep the disease at bay. We're trying to drive home a few such facts with the help of this awareness programme."

Getting into the details the day and night match comprises 30 overs. The teams will have Indians and Pakistanis on both sides. Says one of the organisers, Mannan Thakur of Entertainment Worx, "We're not having any cutthroat Indo-Pak match. Both the teams will have Indians and Pakistanis." Pakistani cricketers Shoaib Akhtar and Rashid Latif will also be participating in the match. Wasim Akram has volunteered to be the captain of one of the teams. As for the other side, either Sunil Shetty or Mithun Chakaraborty will be the skipper. The rest of the matches will be played at New Delhi, London and Pakistan.

This is all too fine. Our question is who is going to be the coach? Any takers?

thats really awesome! 👏.. its for a good cause, and such events shud occur .... awareness for diabetes shud spread all over. 😊

Wasim himself is diabetic.......its nice to see ppl organise such events for noble causes!
