UPW's playoffs hopes hanging by a thread, UP Warriorz have an uphill task of turning their campaign around against a hurting Mumbai Indians when the WPL 2025 action resumes on Thursday (March 6) in Lucknow.

Warriorz began the tournament with back to back heavy defeats in Vadodara before the turnaround in Bengaluru when they became the first team in WPL 2025 to defend a score - against the now-qualified Delhi Capitals. They then won the first-ever Super Over in the competition after an all-round act from Sophie Ecclestone stunned RCB and its partisan crowd. However, they've gone on to lose two games since to plummet to the bottom of the points table - tied with RCB on four points each but with a worrying NRR of -0.786.

MI are back to winning ways, thanks to solid contributions from their three experienced overseas players - Kerr, Sciver-Brunt and Matthews. They don't have the 'Q' adjacent to their name yet but they are in a very good position. UPW, on the other hand, continue to languish at the bottom of the ladder with just 4 points in 7 matches. Mathematically, they are still alive in this competition.

Harmanpreet Kaur | MI captain: They batted really well, we were not able to use the conditions in the first six overs. We knew we just needed one wicket to come back into the game. The opportunity came at the right moment. (On Kerr) She's always looking to get wickets, today she bowled really well and got all the crucial wickets. (Opening pair) We're quite flexible, we have to prepare really well, today we went with what was best for us. All the games, we try to stay together. Really happy with the way we played today.

Mumbai Indians jump to the second spot with this win. After opting to bowl, they were put under a lot of pressure by Georgia Voll who was promoted to the top of the order. The 21-year-old along with Grace Harris got UP Warriorz off to a flier with the former notching up a quickfire half-ton. The openers put on a 74-run stand but once they were separated, things went downhill for the home team. UPW were restricted to 150, thanks to Amelia Kerr who bagged a fifer. She was also promoted to bat at the top of the order. While she didn't make a significant contribution, Hayley Matthews ensured that MI had a very good powerplay (50/1). She recorded a 35-ball fifty and forged a 92-run stand with the leading run-getter of this season - Nat Sciver-Brunt. That partnership all but sealed the match. UP tried to exert some pressure by picking a few wickets but MI hunted down the target with 9 balls to spare.
