India have hardly played 3-4 pink ball matches. I can recall one v Bangladesh, one v Australia where we were bowled out for 36 in the 2nd innings, one against England - we won if I recall correctly.

If you look at India's overall red ball record, its actually pathetic. We have lost more than we won. Only in the last 20 yrs we've started winning outside .. prior to that.. it was like India would once or twice couple of tests outside in the country in 10 years.

But congrats to Shreyas Iyer on a beautifully played innings! 👏

We were crumbling bad but he totally carried the innings on his shoulders ❤️❤️

Day 1, Session 3 ...

If the pitch was bowling friendly, Shreyas Iyer made it his best friend. 252 looks a very, very good score on this pitch and India will be very happy going into the break after being hanging at 93/4 at the start of this session. On a pitch that was tricky to bat on, one would feel that Sri Lanka did not bowl to the best of their abilities. On this surface, the spinners are always handy but the trio - Lasith Embuldeniya, Dhananjaya de Silva and Praveen Jayawickrama bowled far too loose deliveries and gave away free boundaries. This might just be a pleasing score from India's point of view, knowing the face that they have much more experienced spinners than their opposition.

What an exceptional knock from Shreyas Iyer! He and Rishabh Pant made the spinners change their lengths and play against the pitch. Just too many short balls and Iyer did not hang back defending it. India's innings was mostly bolstered by Shreyas Iyer, who was playing so well on this tricky pitch. After a loose start by the openers. Virat Kohli and Hanuma Vihari did well to build the innings but both fell after getting a start. Rishabh Pant played in his own style and scored a quick 39 off 26 deliveries. It was Shreyas Iyer's innings that helped India brisk away in this session. He will be gutted to have not scored a century but nevertheless, it was one of the finest knocks on a pitch where others struggled.
