Hmmm..

tbh I never seen Steven Smith..But judging from the facts u posted bout him , I think he is a red alert..
He plays for England ??

Despite that, Root does manage to pick up a good wicket every now and then.

Smith's an Australian.

The next line says it all,why i like him.Its purely my POV.😉Then any one can say Ashwin and Harbajan as the best batsman as they play wonderfully at overseas.one match / innings cannot prove a guys talent,a player should be consistent in every series.

Neither Steven Smith or Joe Root have only excelled in 1 innings. Both of them have done well at multiple events.

I think it's a fair comparison, because both have played cricket for a similar time, so no one has a benefit. Of course, both do have a lot of potential, but I believe this thread is about judging who has done better so far (and who we predict to do better in the immediate future).

hmm why cant we compare the players who belong to same generation. If we compare them to a seniors like Hayden/ Kevin, then it wont be a fair poll. Its just about the perspective what we want to take.

Currently it's Steve Smith because the once this batsman comes in , the score just swiftly moves during his stay on the crease . Scoring like this against a bowling opposition like South Africa is no easy task . And it also clearly showed batsmen like Maxwell are everywhere and each team is now looking for a Steve Smith in themselves . He's consistent now and in his best form he has ever been in his career and truly he's Australia's trump card for the World Cup . I'm not implying Joe Root is not a good player but at the moment Steve Smith is better than many of them playing the game .

Both Smith and Root are brilliant young players. As far as ODIs are concered,I would definately choose Smith, since he gets runs and gets them quickly. In case of Tests, the competition is much more even ,but I think Joe Root has an edge since he has a great tempertment and can play big innings..

Both the players are great no doubt...
But I would choose smith against root because smith is a quality batsman the way he plays against spin is just delight to watch root is not as good against spin compared to smith and talking about pace would not matter because they are equal in that perspective because Australia is home for raw pace..
Other than their batting qualities both part time spinners
So its a bit difficult to choose one over the other...
