I need help in math :/

I am not a math person so yeah am really bad at it -_-

This is math108 All practice purposes (Kind of a business math)

Here is what I have to do..

The distribution of income in the United States is skewed to the right. According to a Census Bureau report, the mean and median incomes of American households were $48,201 and $66,570 in 2006. Which of these numbers is the mean and which is the median? Explain your reasoning. Which of these numbers (mean or median) are better to use when talking about the average US income? Give another example where there is a large difference between mean and median. Give examples when it is better to use mean and when it is better to use median.

It's due on monday...so help asap!

@reemz.malik

Mean = $66,570
Median = $48,201

Reason: The distribution is skewed to the right. Therefore, there is tail to the right of the mean. Therefore, more than 50% of data points are to the left of the mean i.e. mean is to the right of more than 50% of data points.
Therefore,mean is to the right of median i.e. mean > median

Median is better to use because the data are skewed.

I will post the other parts sometime tomorrow.

$48,201 is the median where as $66,570 is the mean because there are few Americans who make a lot of money annually hence making the mean higher than the median. When talking about the average U.S. income it's better to use the median because the mean also includes the high salary of few Americans so it won't give you an accurate result.

One of the examples where the mean and the median has a large difference can be the starting salaries of a graduating class from college. Not everyone will get have same or close to same salaries like a doctor will have a higher salary then an engineer. A sport player like in NBA, MLB, NFL will have a higher salary range hence the larger difference. It is better to use the median for accurate result here.
