Are you my friend?

"Are you my friend?" I asked the girl who walked beside me.

She left me near the gate, from where the world looked darker a bit.

I looked at her leave.

But the hope in my heart never did retreat.

A boy came to me.

He also walked the path alone and now needed a friend to believe.

The light emerged illuminating the path,

Our eyes gleaming in pleasure

Walking aside we crossed the path.

I asked him near the end, the end of his journey but the beginning of mine

Are you my friend?

He gazed at the darkness that enveloped the world ahead

He looked at me and asked a question

"Can't you come with me?"

I gazed down my path, the path that looked dark.

I knew I could say "yes"

But as stubborn as I, what I managed was a Bye.

Pitch black was the darkness that followed

Colorless were the words those flowed

Though I felt a shiver

A cold sensation did ran down my spine

But there was something that helped me to be fine

Sweet, caring, helpful, humorous that's how they defined a friend

But I never found the one behind a "friend"

The girl was sweet, she helped me down the road and we laughed together

But she left my side when the world became darker

The boy was cute, his words moving, his face always smiling

But what did he do after offering?

Unaware, unconcerned I fell

A rock was the hurdle that I couldn't tell?

The girl and the boy never came

The path became densely black ahead

Fear and pain now made me sweat

I heard a laughter, from somewhere near it came

Managing my sinus, lifting up the last bit of faith

I faced the person who was laughing at me

Looking at him I felt angry but my lips gave a smile instead

Unknowingly tears came in my eyes

The person fell silent as the first tear slipped by

A palm caught the second tear, as it was as precious as a diamond

The third never got the chance to slip

Grabbing that palm I stood up

Listened and heard but didn't attend

Smile crossed my lips as I let the words slipped

It was my time to go now, follow the path and follow the dreams

It was again my time to ask the same question

But I restrained and never did uttered a word

I walked down the road alone once again

There was no fear, no tear this time

I felt a presence as strong as mine

Though there was no one there but a grip was there all around

I turned and saw him

Walking beside me with a smile

It was then that I knew

You need not ask a friend

"Are you my friend?"

Because they also said about a friend

"the one who will never leave your side, no matter what it be"

"the one you needn't ask to be with but the one who was always there"

"the one whom you met and you still are meeting"

"the one whose presence you felt when you walked the dark path of your dreams"
