Among crystal water forming cascades
And the glistening patches in the glades
Lay a love story immortal indeed
Their graves lay in grass deep buried
They wear not of royalty nor deprived
People not of extraordinary qualities either
But their heart had united among the first gaze
In admitting it , unbashed and unfazed
Her father a man of great ambition
Want to wed her to royalty and of great station
He knew no man would disagree
Her delicate beauty was of perfect degree
Helen a damsel, true to her name
Of her , they thought a priceless possession and of fame
Were her golden lock , her eyes lowered shy
No often did she see a passer by
But once Sheldon she saw a cobbler of town
Her hair jet black , and skin a lovely shade of brown
He turned to look back at her and she knew the truce was made
To the turbulent storms of love , heart crusted and laid
They met often in the woods and to him she sang
Of their love and the birds and the hearts pang
She tinkled her anklets in lovely rhythm
Of such depth their love grew, no one could fathom
In all such times he just did smiles,
Not a word he uttered and that Helen thought awhile
Maybe he didn't love her as much as she did
Should she to her relationship, an adieu bid?
One day she went to draw water crystal clear
In the song she sang ,the trampling hooves she did not hear
There stood the Prince notorious and greedy
He got down silently after the horse he did steady
A hunting trip he had set out of for and he had
A deer had fallen , it was his and it was entrapped
He held her by her dainty hand and dragged
In shock she looked and her courage sagged
He asked her to come and do his bidding
She just refused , her urn skidding
He just raised his eyebrows and said " Is it so?"
Her cries went unheard in the roar of river below
She saw the dagger that had fallen beneath
She quickly hid in her flowing gown, as a sheath
He took her to the woods to fulfill his desire
And then she struck at him, like spitting fire
She drove the dagger uptil the hilt
Her sobs in fright made a melancholic lilt
She began to run among the woods tell she reached home
Her father she appealed to , who had turned to stone
Her hands had been washed clean of blood or nearly
The king announced an award for the culprit so deadly
Who had murdered an innocent prince in cold blood
Who could have they wondered , and a man reported
Helen wondered what took her father so long
And in the castle, his eyes glistened and the gold, and a gong
Its deep rumbles shook the calm of her heart
She steadied herself to run to Sheldon, after days apart
She ran and the sound of iron came close by
And away from the dad who had upon her called fie
The furnace glowed bright and worm,
Just as the skies rumbled, an approaching storm
She narrated her tale of woe and shook in fright
He embraced her close and a warmth infinite
Off her eyes he gently wiped the tears
With his one smile, soothing all her fears
And he stood back to look and then dissapproved
"How Could you?" he said and her heart , a beat it skipped
What if rejected her , to whom would she turn
Not to her mother who worried about gossip along the run
"A lady , you hurt your legs with bare foot", he said
To laugh or cry she knew not that so much he cared
But yet how did he not respond to her worries
And far away a troop set out thrashing the berries
She heard the footstep of the approaching brave
And she knew she was closer to her grave
To him he signalled to go up the hill
And he picked her up and her heart went still
Up they treaded , slowly as yet
They could never reach the top, she bet
But then with her tears, the sky wailed too
The blazing torches extinguished, they knew not what to do
Further up he treaded, without any fatigue
Of his silence she wondered yet, intrigued
"Do you value honour Miss or are you afraid?"
And she shook her head and one more step he made
The ocean lay below, deep and vast
But yet less scarier than the soldiers approaching fast
Down they plunged , forever united
Yet their love infinite, undaunted
But one secret did Helen never learn
For the reason behind his smiles for her songs in turn
Well, it happened that he was stone deaf
Nor did the gossip hurt him and love as deep as the cliff
He heard her woes only by her tears
And from her trembles all her fears
By her blood stained clothes of the tragedy
And by signs on their strategy
That's how it should be folks still say
Blind to hassles love should be
And deaf to wagging tongues in the grove
Cause what more can you know from people,
About the person you love more than you, your love?
