Consumer is king'
'Grahakpal' movie talks about how the rights of consumers are violated on an everyday basis and how one can fight against such violations
This movie that has Shivaji Saatam playing the role of Grahakpal supported by Dayanand Shetty (both of the CID fame) guides people on how should they tackle consumer related problems.
"Our main objective is to educate people about their rights as consumers and create awareness about the various machineries that are available in the state to address their problems," said Dr. M. S. Kamath, Secretary, CGSI.
This movie has been made in three languages namely English, Hindi and Marathi and each of these versions have four versions with varying time length of 11 minutes, 3 minutes, 30 seconds and 15seconds.
"The eleven minute-long movie will be for screening at events, fun fairs or college festivals where we would get more time slot while the others of thirty seconds and fifteen seconds duration will be appropriate for being screened at bus stands, movie halls or places where people are in a hurry and the message needs to be conveyed quickly," said Dr. Kamath who feels that audio visual medium has more impact and gathers more attention.
The cost of this project is around six lakh and has been made from a budgetary grant received from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India and Ministry of Consumer Protection, Government of Maharashtra.
Also, a special version of this movie has been made wherein there is no audio but a video with subtitles that pass on the right message for being screened at railway stations. "We have approached the Central Railways and they asked us to prepare a separate version with no sound for them. We have already done that," said Dr. Kamath.
