I think Abhi has been more open to this being a long term marriage from the start. And there are hints that he does somewhat like her. He's always the one mentioning things and then walking it back, or having her remind him to correct himself. There are many instances one can point to. It was seen early on in their coffee shop exchange where he apologizes about the whole patri and priest issue and promises her to make decisions together.

Abhi and Meera are doing this for their families, but only Meera's situation is one where the ends justify the means. Abhi's initial plan was simply to introduce Meera, let the family think she is his gf and so get them off his back about marriage, and then leave for US in a few months.

When he suggests it to Meera, she flashes back to her conversation with the Dada of her sister's bf. We are not privy to Abhi and Meera's conversation after that. And we also are just shown the next episode that they have come to the decision of contract marriage.

Meera is the one likely to have brought up marriage, because she is the one who needed the marriage. And for Meera, if the marriage breaks, her family still gets one positive: Moushmi's marriage, assuming that it goes well and is a happy one.

Abhi, who is doing this for his family's happiness, only hurts his family if the truth comes out and the two separate, with no gains for his family. Meera is living with his family, becoming part of his family, etc etc. No matter what happens, that will end up hurting his family. Unless maybe their plan is to move to US and then separate, but even then it makes little sense because it's not like families don't stay in touch, visit each other, etc etc.

Abhi pretending to have a gf for a few months and moving to US, is different than living with the family as husband and wife and then somehow separate and tell them they are no longer together.

Which is why I think Abhi maybe hopes that maybe within a year they will sort out their contract/temporary marriage. ("Aahista, ashista you will get used to chachu." Meera gives warning, and he gives clarification). Because his justification and reasoning that this contract/temporary marriage is for his family's happiness doesn't make sense, unlike Meera for whom that explanation does make sense.

Also, Abhi didn't want to marry, but at the same time he often gave promises to his family such as 'I told you, I am agreeing to marriage, just stop rushing to find a girl. I am not saying I will not agree if you don't find the girl this week.' This is opposed to how Meera always objected to the marriage, she agreed to meet the guy just to get that over with and meet the guy.

Meera has always been more resolute in her stance against getting married than Abhi, who had many times tried to talk his family out of marriage his marriage agreement, but at same time had also given reasonable requests regarding his agreement for marriage.

Unless their plan is to move abroad after a year, live together but separate lives, and show a united front to their families when needed. LOL. Which doesn't seem to be something Meera's up for. So... yeah.
