It's a festival that tamils living here, celebrate. (It's for Lord Muruga, perhaps). They build cavadees which they carry from the river to the temple. We also offer prayers when the procession passes before our house.

I'm a hindu. I don't celebrate really... (We don't go to kovil in the morning etc) But when the procession passes near our house, we offer prayers and in the evenings, we go to eat at our neighbours' place, those who had built a Cavadee and kept their fast.
