He is playing a negative character. He is a member of the Purohit family but we still do not know why he is hated by them or what he did to anger everyone. He fathered Vishaka Shastri's child and landed in some legal trouble with her in Mumbai, where she was trying to become a film star. Her sister Radhika unintentionally had him thrown in jail and now he is back for revenge, working with the show's other villain Shantanu. Hope that helps.
