The next morning when Radhika squinted her eyes open she found herself facing Pati, wrapped in his embrace; it wasn't the first time she woke to such a situation but this time was different for this time she didn't feel the fear. She wasn't engulfed with anxiety or panic. This time she oddly felt safe being so close to him, she wasn't cringing at the feel of his arms around her…. NO! this time it was giving her a different feeling, it comforted her, calmed her…. she remembered the previous night how he; Pati had calmed her, comforted her, soothed her after she had woken up from that painful memory…. She had disturbed her Pati with her cries, she even broke the glass in her frantic movements but Pati wasn't angry with her, he didn't yell at her, didn't hit her, didn't even whip her….
Radhika smiled remembering Pati's promise… he had given her a promise… a promise that cannot be broken… he had promised her he would never hurt her and she believed him…. she had to believe him…. hadn't her father at countless times stated that men never broke their promise; they always followed through their promise! They did! Radhika knew Pati would also keep his promise! He had too!
Radhika turned, trying to withdraw herself from Pati's hold, her hand trembled only slightly as she gently tried to pry Pati's hand off from her… she cringed when Pati pulled her closer, tightening his arms around her… she lay still for few minutes in fear of waking Pati from his deep slumber… she didn't want to disturb his sleep not when Pati was being so nice to her… she didn't want to do anything stupid and get him angry at her…
"Stay… with me" Pati's sleepy voice broke her thoughts… she peered at him cautiously only to see his eyes still closed as he pulled up the comforter, covering them both.
Her eyes darted towards the clock, her eyes widening seeing the time… it was already six… she was already an hour late in getting up from bed. She had to get up now, she didn't want to get everyone angry at her, although none of the family members said anything about getting up at a certain time but she didn't want to get any one angry at her for sleeping in till late and plus it was almost time for her to help Dadi in cleaning the temple. It wasn't like Dadi gave her a lot of work to do… in fact; she hardly gave her any work stating she was still unwell and shouldn't do any work till she had the plaster in her hand. But still she liked to sit there inside the temple and watch Dadi clean the temple and prepare for the morning prayers…. and most of the times Dadi even talked with her although she never spoke to her or replied to her questions…. she knew better then to speak….she knew she shouldn't talk, talking was not allowed for her… her father and brothers had constantly reprimanded her, punished her for speaking… always telling her that she should never speak, she was not allowed to… they hated to hear her voice hence she kept her mouth closed and only replied to Dadi by nodding or shaking her head and sometimes expressing through her face which Dadi did not understand but Mayank did and he always answered it to Dadi…
Despite everything, She loved to spend her morning with Dadi at the temple… especially when Dadi allowed her to make the garland or prepare the thali for the pooja while Dadi instructed her on the right way to prepare the thali, explaining her on how to do the prayers, why people prayed… and often times Mayank joined them, always sitting beside her, sometimes playing with her dupatta or coloring in his color book, at times asking her to help him with coloring… and they both would busy themselves in coloring as they listened to Dadi narrate them stories about Lord Krishna… Mayank interrupted in between with his questions which Dadi always answered with patience……
Radhika sighed turning on her side her back facing her Pati…. she only hoped she won't be punished too severely for getting up late…. maybe…. Pati can tell his family not to punish her too hardly…… NO! Radhika quickly shook the thought away, scolding herself for even hoping such a thing, why would Pati say anything in her favor, he would probably be more upset at her for upsetting his family by not getting up on time…. Even though it had been he who wanted her to stay in bed with him but still he will probably blame it on her…. she should know better… hadn't her brothers and father done the same thing countless times; like the time when Nirendra bhaiyaji had ordered her to clean his closet and later on punished her for not washing the dishes …. And when she had tried to tell him about she being busy with cleaning his closet he had quickly slapped her hard on her right cheek reminding her about not opening her mouth…. They were too many instances like that one… it was always her fault because she was never able to complete everything on time no matter how hard she tried… but every time she got closer to achieving the goal of finishing all her chores on the given time one of her brothers or her father just added one more chores to the list….. at that time she had seen it as a never ending process.... but now….
Now she hardly had anything to do… most of her time was either spent with Mayank exploring her new home which just seemed bigger and bigger every time Mayank showed her some part of the mansion…. And when Mayank was in school she spent her time in her room cautiously reading the newspaper and glancing at the door every few seconds with the fear of being caught for stealing Pati's newspaper and reading it without his permission…. She was caught several times by Pati's Didi and Dadi but they didn't yell at her nor punished her for it… they had only smiled at her, seated themselves beside her on the couch and simply talked with her; often asking her questions which she answered with a nod or a shake…. it wasn't like she didn't want to speak to them… she had tried few times to open her mouth and speak to them but only ended up closing it back because her fear did not let her speak…. She simply couldn't speak to them; she couldn't even swallow in their presence…. She even had trouble breathing when she was around them…… She was just unable to voice any words not even a simple word as "yes"…. She tried…. She tried really hard especially because she knew Pati's Didi and Dadi wanted her to speak… maybe it was because they wanted her to speak that set the panic in her because she feared they were testing her… testing her to see whether she still remembered the rules her father had taught….
The most important rule of not speaking… to never open her mouth…. to never say a word…. The rule she had broken far too often…… She winced as she pictured the countless times her father and brothers had punished her when she had broke the rule and spoke to them…. they had punished her for every word that escaped from her mouth…. She didn't want the same happening here too…. She didn't want to be punished by her new family… she was trying really hard not to break any rules, as long as she stayed obedient and followed every rule then her new family won't punish her… she was happy that they had not yet punished her for anything…. granted she had been good and obedient and followed every rule her father and brothers had set for her but still they had often punished her without any reason… they just seemed to find something or other wrong with her…. but Pati's family was different… they never got angry with her, not even when she had accidently dropped Mayank's shirt…. Dadi had only smiled at her and told Mayank to pick the fallen shirt from the floor….. she had been scared then for she had expected a slap for her accident but she didn't receive any… to be honest she wasn't exactly disappointed about not getting punished for her clumsiness only shocked because she received a smile instead….
She liked Pati's family…. they were all very nice to her…. always smiling and speaking with her…. she hoped they would stay the same… she wanted them to remain this way…. nice and smiling…
She was suddenly jolted out of her thoughts when she felt Pati's arm tighten around her waist as he pulled her back closer against him. She lifted her head and peered over her shoulder, her eyes widened seeing Pati's face buried in her hair… she lifted her hand to her head wondering how her hair escaped from the tightly tied ribbon…. She chewed her lip as she rested her head back on the pillow only to feel the warm hand of Pati press into her cheek…. Had she been sleeping on his hand this whole time?..... she bit her lip worrying over the sudden realization, she had been resting her head on Pati's hand because it was under her head…. She tried to ease herself away from him but he tugged at her pulling her back to him again…. and she found herself involuntarily resting her head on his arm, her nose pressing into the crook of his elbow….
She heard Pati groan at her action, his grip on her tightening briefly and then she felt his leg pressing into hers, his head moved down to her neck…. She heard the sound of deep breathe from her Pati… it sounded like he was inhaling something…. what was he inhaling? Her neck?.... why was he inhaling her neck?.... she had observed him once when he had inhaled her hair… and told her he liked the way her hair smelled when she had given him a questioning look… he had shocked her then not by his answer though… she was shocked because he seemed to understand her questioning look and actually answered her…..
She saw his hand move down towards her hand which was resting on her thigh….. Pati rested his hand on top of hers only for a moment before he began tapping his fingers on her hand; he stopped with his tapping and turned her hand, her palm facing upward now… he began by tapping her fingertips with his forefinger, his pace slow as he tapped each finger… moving up to her palm once he finished with her fingers….
Radhika watched in fascination as his fingers moved to her palm she waited for the tapping to begin again but it didn't, this time Pati traced circles on her palm…. Her lips twitched into a smile at the ticklish feeling in her palm….
Pati's fingers moved at a snail pace… tapping the heel of her palm and then moving up to her wrist where he once again resumed his tracing…. His fingertips drawing odd shapes on the inside of her wrist eliciting a giddy feeling in her…. her lips spreading into a smile as she felt Pati's fingertips tracing unknown shapes on her hand… he didn't linger that long though slowly moved on up her arm no longer tracing rather leisurely tapping the inside of her arm with his fingertips….
"The first step is stimulation… sensory stimulation"
"Sensory stimulation?.... Isn't that a learning theory?"
"Yes, but in this case… you will use the sensory stimulation on Radhika to calm her anxiety…"
"Which one of the senses?" Dev questioned willing to do anything to get his wife to overcome her anxiety if that is what is stopping her from speaking to him and the family.
"Touch…" Muskaan whispered sliding her glasses which had slipped down her nose. "The little I have learned about Radhika through my observation is that touch and words seem to calm her more easily… You can look back on the incident which occurred nearly two hours ago…. It was your words and gentle caresses that calmed her from her nightmare daze" Muskaan explained.
"Okay… so what exactly am I suppose to do?" Dev asked waiting for Muskaan's guidance because he had no idea how he was going to just touch his wife without arousing himself.
"I am sure you can figure it out yourself… just make sure to be gentle… relax her muscles, calm her nerves through gentle caresses"
Radhika lay still on the bed beside her Pati, her eyes intently staring at Pati's fingers, fascinated and curious at the way his fingers tapped and traced her arm, giving her the ticklish feelings…. His warm fingers tapped their way to the crook of her elbow…. The tapping stopped but the tracing began again…. his fingertips tracing odd patterns on the crook of her elbow this time eliciting a laughter from her… she bit her lip in an effort to control the laughter that was bubbling inside her but the more Pati traced his fingertips on her sensitive skin the more it became difficult for her to hold in her laughter… the laughter escaped from her mouth, no longer able to hold it in at the tickling feeling Pati's ministrations were resulting in…
Radhika's eyes widened as she heard the sound of her soft laughter she had been unable to hold… she quickly clamped her mouth shut with her free hand and stared at Pati's hand that had stilled hearing the sound of her laughter… she waited with still breath her eyes glued to Pati's fingers that lay motionless on the inside of her elbow….
She tried to peer at his face over her should but suddenly realized his head was still pressed against her neck…. She had been so focused and captivated by the movement of his fingertips on her arm that she had not paid attention to the feel of his breath fanning on the arch of her neck as his nose was still buried in the nape of her neck….
She breathed a sigh of relief upon feeling the motion of Pati's fingers on her elbow…. He once again resumed his tapping and tracing…. His fingers continued on to trace patterns on her elbow for some time before he began tapping his fingertips moving upward on to her forearm…stopping at her shoulder where he began his tracing patterns again which was once again giving Radhika the ticklish feeling… but this time she was feeling too ticklish… it seemed like Pati knew of her sensitive parts hence he seemed to trace patterns on those parts making it difficult for her to hold in her laughter…. She bit on her bottom lip a little too harshly trying to keep in her laughter… it wouldn't do to laugh out again; just because Pati let it go the first time doesn't mean he would ignore it the second time…
Pati's fingers kept tracing the arch of her shoulder… increasing his pressure which only seemed to heighten the ticklish feeling in Radhika…..who laughed out loud unable to hold it in anymore…. Her laughter stopped just as soon as Pati moved his face from her neck and stilled his tracing….
Oh no! how could she be so careless…. no…no…no….she wasn't allowed to laugh… she must never laugh… how could she break such a rule… she feared the punishment… her eyes brimming with tears as she remembered the punishment she had received from her father the last time she has laughed out…. She hoped Pati won't be as harsh as her father had been with his punishment… maybe it wouldn't hurt so bad this time….. maybe… Pati won't use a burning rod like her father had used when he had whipped her feet…..
"I will never hurt you, Radhika, I promise" Pati's words from last night rang through her mind and she suddenly found the calmness filling in her… no longer feeling panicked at the impending punishment… whatever the punishment might be… she at least had the assurance of it not hurting her….
Radhika closed her eyes and chewed on her lower lip when she felt Pati fingers wrapping on her shoulder and lightly pushing her, turning her form to face him…. she kept her eyes closed and continued to chew on her lip as her back rested on the bed…. She felt Pati's eyes on her…. she knew he was staring at her waiting for her to open her eyes but she couldn't…. she was too scared to do it….
"You mustn't do that" Dev reprimanded pulling at his wife's lower lip which she had been chewing on so furiously. He smiled as he watched his fingertips caress her cheek…. He had woken up to find his wife wrapped around him… it had thrilled him to feel her so close to him… he didn't know what came over him but he was enjoying the feeling of waking up with her in his arms… he had been unable to stop himself from pressing his face into her hair and then he had felt her nuzzle into his arm that was resting under her head…. He couldn't hold back his groan at her action which had aroused him and he found himself pulling her more closer to him burying his face into the nape of her neck and inhaling her alluring feminine scent….
He didn't know what he was doing…. well not really, he had an idea of what he was doing… he just hoped it was good enough to calm his wife… he doubted whether this sensory stimulation Muskaan had suggested would work or not when he trailed his hand down her arm…. Tapping and tracing her arm… it was all instinct…. but then he felt her twitch when he traced the inside of her wrist and then he heard her giggle when his fingertips traced the inside of her elbow… it had momentarily shocked him, stilling his movement…. The sound of her laughter for about only a few seconds before she covered her mouth with her hand holding in her laughter… he didn't like it… her suppressing her laughter…. He wanted to hear it… he wanted to watch her face , gaze at the way her lips opened up wide with mirth…. he wanted to hear the tinkling of her laughter that resulted because of his caresses..….
"Did this tickle you?" Dev asked his wife as he teasingly traced his fingertips on the crook of her elbow once again.
He watched in silent observation as his wife lied; quickly shaking her head in denial at his question.
"Open your eyes, Radhika" Dev commanded with a frown on his face at his wife's action.
Radhika opened her eyes cautiously and found herself gazing into Pati's dark orbs… he hadn't sounded angry and neither did he look angry… maybe she wasn't going to get punished for laughing out loud…
"Does this tickle you?" Dev asked again, this time pointedly staring at her elbow where his fingertips increased the pressure slightly in their tracing…
Radhika bit her lip and averted her eyes from Pati's gaze as she once again lied by shaking her head in denial to his question.
"You know what I don't like, Radhika?" Dev asked his fingers cupping her chin and turning her face towards his…. he hated the way she tried to hide herself from him…
Radhika furrowed her brows and peered at Pati… waiting for him to complete his speech…
"I don't like it when people lie to me" Dev informed her staring at her pointedly, willing her to understand his words.
Radhika gasped, her eyes widening at Pati's words… he did not like liars…. She had just lied to him… he knew she was lying to him…. that was why he informed her about his dislike of people who lie to him… Radhika's eyes brimmed with tears of shame…. She didn't want Pati's to dislike her… he had been so nice to her, she didn't want him to not be nice to her… but she… stupid… stupid…. She was sooo stupid…. She messed it all up by lying to him… now he was angry at her and didn't like her anymore… and will probably punish her for lying…. The tears escaped from her eyes, cascading down her cheek as she cried silent tears of shame and regret…
"Radhika… shhh…. don't cry… please" Dev whispered wiping her tears as he mentally cursed himself for acting so stern with her… there was no need for him to be so reprimanding with her just because she lied to him… granted, he hated when people lied to him but really it wasn't like she was lying about something really big and important but no he had to be all stern and reprimanding bringing her to tears….
"Please don't cry… I am not angry with you" Radhika sniffed gazing at Pati through her long lashes… shocked at his words… he was not angry with her?.... why was he not angry with her?.... she had lied to him… he should be angry with her… he should punish her… she deserved to be punished… she had been bad… lying to her Pati on his face when he asked her a simple question but she… she had been too scared of getting punished for laughing and ended up lying to him about not feeling ticklish…. A fresh bout of tears escaped from her eyes as she remembered her errors…. He had yet to punish her for breaking the rule and laughing out loud… and now for lying too…
"You will not lie to me again… will you?" Dev asked using a different tactic to stop his wife's crying…. He hated to see the tears in her eyes…. hated to watch her silently sob as she was doing right now…
Radhika quickly shook her head in denial…. No, she would never lie to Pati… not when she knew he didn't like people who lie… she wanted Pati to like her… if he liked her then he will continue to be nice to her like he had been so far but if he started to dislike her then he would punish and hurt her like her father and brothers…. She was sure of that…
"You promise?" Dev asked pleased to see his tactic working, she was no longer sobbing…
Radhik lifted her hand to her throat, held some skin of her throat between her forefinger and thumb and nodded her head promising her Pati.
Dev smiled seeing his wife's gesture, he had often seen his nephew Mayank do the same action when he was promising something. He wondered if his wife picked the gesture from Mayank or was it something she had learned as a child and still continued to use…..
"Now, answer my question… did that tickle you?" Dev asked his question once again, knowing this time he would get a truthful reply.
Radhika nodded her head in acceptance… yes his fingertips tracing on her arm had tickled her.
"Good" Dev smiled leaning down and kissing her cheek. Glad to have finally taken care of her lying issue now he can get on with what Muskaan had instructed him to do.
Radhika slightly lifted her head, suddenly finding herself hard to breathe at Pati's words although he had spoken them just few moments ago but still it gave her immense happiness to know he liked her. She blinked at him as she stared into his happy face and tentatively gave him a small smile in return.
Really liked the update..Especially with Radev 😳..Im glad that Dev is using a technic to calm RAdhika down with his caress on his hands thats making Radhika ticklish 😉...I really loved reading Radhika interaction with DAdima and Muskann and the rest of the family ..Its good that RAdhika likes her new family Very much ..Her father and brothers were so mean to her ..Wipping her when she wanted to talk .😲.I hope she gets rid of her fear of talking with the family and starts interacting with them with words and not with expressions ..I want dev to make her laugh and talk freely with no fear ..Im sure he will like her even more seeing more of her innocence 😉
