Another daily for Daljit

Daljit Kaur of Kulvaddhu fame has bagged a new show on Star Plus. She'll be playing one of the leads in Shakuntalam's Santaan. Beside this, she also has a Star One's Choona Hai Aasmaan.

"I'm playing the role of Suhana, who is very much like me. Santaan is a show which portrays the relation of a parent with its child. It has a strong message for the current generation" says Daljit.

Elaborating further on her character, she says, "This role is very simple and easy for me. I play the youngest child in the family who is very pampered and little spoiled. Gaurav and Sudeep play the role of my elder brothers who are possessive about me. It's a beautiful character that every girl can relate with"

She adds further "It feels great to be a part of Santaan. Through this show, I'm able to create some awareness among the youth and can make them realise the importance of parents in their lives. The generation gap is always there between parents and children and then how does things change is the USP of the story. It's something that occurs in each and every house"

Daljit is also playing a strong character in Choona hai… "This show is basically about air force and I portray a challenging role. I can't reveal much as my entry is going to be surprise package. My character is going to bring some twist in the tale," she quips.

Wikipedia on CHA 😆 😆 It says Abhi and Sam will meet and fall in love? 😳

The show is based on the story of a small town girl Sameera, who wants to be in Indian Air Force just like her father. She is brought up by a strong willed single mother and her dream is to be a brave warrior in air force, and she will do whatever it takes to fulfill her dream. Luckily, one day her meeting with destiny brings her in contact with one of the ablest commanders of the air force, Commander Arya Veer Pratap. As the story progresses further, Sameera realises that she shares a deeper connection with Arya Veer, who has been the perfect father that she has always dreamt of.

The show is also based on Abhimanyu Adhikari, another protanoist's life. He would do anything to fight for his nation and protect it from 'EVIL'. As the story progresses, Sameera and Abhi meets and they fall in love. But their love story is threatened by many, but often the conflicts arise within them. Sometimes they have to choose between their love for each other and their love for the country. The dilemma is: Will Sameera and Abhi be able to choose duty before self? Watch to find out.

^^^ what is that supposed to mean? Choose for the love of country or for themselves? 😳 arrghh, Monday where are you? 😳

Vivan Bhatena is on a high

Vivan Bhatena is on a high — literally, professionally and personally! After carving a niche for himself on the small screen with popular serials like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi , Kumkum , Maayka and others, the model-turned-actor will soon be seen in Chuna Hai Aasman , based on life in the air force.

Sounding visibly excited, Vivan reveals, "Part of the shooting took place at an airforce base in Jodhpur. We lived with pilots and flew the Sukhoi. Needless to say, it was an awesome feeling. Now I know why people say pilots have inflated egos, flying makes you feel like god."

Vivan chose to move away from Kumkum to be a part of this serial, which will also see Iqbal Khan's return to small screen. So, was it rivalry or 'healthy competition' for the handsome hunks?

"Only fun. Iqbal's a friend, we live in the same area and go to the same gym. Thus there was no need to be intimidated. If I had worked with Amitabh Bachchan maybe, I might have gone 'wow'!" says Vivan, who's been Mr India 2001 himself.

Nevertheless, Vivan's come close to superstardom with his cameo act in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chak De! India .

"I'm very excited about the appreciation that Chak De... has brought. One of the biggest reasons for taking it up was that it was a Yash Raj project and a SRK starrer, people were sure to see the film." There were reports that Vivan's reel character, the hearthrob cricketer Abhimanyu, was inspired by Yuvraj Singh. Quiz him about it, and he says, "Yes, Shimit and I did discuss this for reference. But really, Abhimanyu is just a smart gun, and not a bad guy."

So, is Bollywood calling for Vivan now? "I would be interested in films in the future, but for now, television's very happening. I truly believe television is becoming bigger than films. Even film stars are coming on TV now," he exclaims.

Meanwhile, the personal high in Vivan's life is marked by his recent engagement to longtime girlfriend Nikhila Palat. Talking about it, Vivan says, "I took a big step this year. We will be getting married in March next. Obviously, I'm very happy!"

SKY HIGH
A. L. Chougule

The sky is the limit for Iqbal Khan who's made a comeback after daring to quit as the lead of a Balaji show. Here the actor talks about his last show Karam Apna Apna and his new flight to success

After doing two films which sank without a trace at the box-office, it was Ekta Kapoor who gave a fresh lease of life to Iqbal Khan's non-happening acting career with Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai. Soon the good-looking actor became Ekta Kapoor's blue-eyed boy. With his career taking off in a big way on television, Ekta cast him in Kavyanjali and Karam Apna Apna and Iqbal couldn't have asked for anything more. But all of a sudden in December last, Iqbal decided to get married and quit Karam Apna Apna as well as Balaji. While most actors take break from work for personal reasons, Iqbal's decision to quit the show as well as the television's most successful and happening banner came as a huge surprise to one and all.

However, after an almost nine-month sabbatical Iqbal has made a comeback on television with an action-adventure-emotion show based on the lives of airforce cadets for which he has apparently been offered huge money. However, a few months ago, there was a strong buzz that Ekta was trying to sabotage Iqbal's comeback on the Star platform. Ask him whether there was any truth in the rumours and he says he also heard and read the same in the media. "I have no clue and let's not talk about it," he requests.

A firm believer in the Almighty, Iqbal says nobody can take away what Allah has ordained. "It's Allah who can make or break you or your career. No human being has that power," he says with a straight face. In fact, during his sabbatical he was never ever worried or felt insecure about getting work. "There were loads of offers but all were the same family soaps which I really didn't want to do," he adds. Is that the reason why his break lasted nine months? "Actually I was figuring out what exactly I should do. I was looking for something really different from what I had done for three years prior to my break. In May I was approached for Chhoona Hai Aasman and it was exactly the kind of show I wanted to do," he says matter-of-factly.

In Chhoona Hai Aasman he plays Flight lieutenant Abhimanyu Adhikari, an expert in guerrilla warfare. Abhimanyu is a man of few words and believes in rules and regulations. "The air force is just the backdrop and it provides a vehicle for taking the story forward as well as action and adventure sequences. But essentially the show is all about emotions and inter-personal relationships," says Iqbal, refusing to reveal anything more about the show and his role. All that he says is Abhimanyu is an intense person and has a dry sense of humour. Something like Iqbal in real life? "It's true that I am a man of few words. I believe in doing my best and leave the rest to Allah," he says with a brief smile.

If he is a man of few words he also comes out as a serious person. "There is a funny side to me as well but basically I am an intense and fairly private person," he reveals. He also likes to strike a balance between personal and professional life, especially after working day in and day out for three years. Is this a shaadi ka effect? "That's the way one should work. And that's the way several actors at Balaji are working. But I overdid everything. I worked from morning to midnight and in the process my health got affected and I had to take a break," he says, adding, "At that point of time it didn't matter to me that I was quitting a show where I was playing the lead. I needed a break and I went ahead."

During his break did he try to patch up with Ekta or was he offered a show by Balaji? "Let's not go back to Balaji and Ekta again," he pleads once more. "Let that be the past and let's talk about this show." He says he did his first show with Balaji when Sandiip Sikcand was its creative head. And he is happy that Sandiip again is the creative head for Chhoona Hai Aasman. Call it coincidence or whatever; both Iqbal and Sandiip are not on good terms with Balaji. "You can call it anything you want but I am happy doing this show," he signs off.
