I really enjoyed the 'Sa Re Ga Ma' when Sonu Nigam used to host you know. They had veteran judges too - Mannadey, Naushad, OPN, Khayyam, Anil Biswas, Jagjit Singh!

And they would discuss the nuances of music and share so much knowledge!

The participants then were good too - most of them trained in classical.

One of them from the earliest SaReGaMa that I can recall was soo good, Sanjeev Ramabhadran, He has done a Rafi series on YouTube which is brilliant.

He also hosts a Radio show called Swaranjali on Radio Dil every Sunday 11 am and pm EST. Prema, you should give it a listen. He showcases a raag each time, explains it fully and plays film songs based on that raag!

Yes, ✊I group in the 90s India, what a golden period it was for television 😍 serials, reality shows, every single one of them were gems.

We got Shrey Ghoshsl, Vijay Prakash, Bela Shende all from Zee Sa re gam pa and Sonu what a host he was and all those esteemed judges❤️
We also had Meri Awwaz Suno judged by Latha Mangeshkar and in one season Sunidhi Chauhan was the winner.

Those were the days❤️

I am a simple human being dear.❤️

Loves painting, a trained classical dancer, for that, learned a bit of classical music, and writing is my life-giving breath.

The representation of Viswaroopa i.e. universe reflected in the ponds of the eye

The reverberation of the melody around the mountains of Heart.

The essence of Samaveda is the song I'm singing ever,

Becoming Brahma while writing a few lines to create a new world...

I made you listen to this song by becoming a violin

East being the violin and rays of the son being the strings of it

Becoming the sounds of woken up birds on the stage of blue skies..

The waves of breathing sound that will speak out of every infant that is born..

The sounds of a heart are like a drumbeat when the heart is responding to an emotion

By making those earliest tunes on the Adi tala as the eternal life saga..

That ever going natural process ..

My Inhalation is OM, the poem..

My Exhalation is the song..

I will be there forever in every blink of an eye as birth and death! ---

With love to Ritu and other Sadabahar Geet lovers from Madhuri

I am a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, and in Kuchipudi also, esp Bhamakalapam -- which showcases Satyabhama's pride for owning Krishna!

This song is so haunting and hypnotising that it takes me to a world where nothing is visible around.

Ramlal Choudhry is one the forgotten musical talents of the film industry. In 1944, he arrived in Mumbai and started working as an assistant to music director Ram Ganguly in Prithviraj Kapoor's Prithivi Theatre Group. There, he played the flute on tracks like 'Dekh Chaand Ki Aor' sung by Shamshad Begam and Shailesh, 'Jindaa Hoon is Tarah Ki Ghame Zindagi' sung by Mukesh, 'Raat Ko Jo Chamake Taare' sung by Shamshad Begam and Mukesh, and 'Kaahe Koyaliyaa Shor Machaae Re', sung by Shamshad Begam.

He began his career as an independent music director in 1950, in producer P. L. Santoshi's Tangaawalla starring Raj Kapoor-Vaijayantimala. He recorded six songs for this film. Unfortunately for him the movie was never released.

Choudhry continued to play the flute and shehnai in a number of movies. He got another opportunity to work as a music director for the Baal Hardeep-produced film, Husnbaano. The film was successful and earned him recognition. His songs Yaa Nabeeb Salaam Lai Jaa and Pyaar Karane Ka Ayaa Jamaana became hit songs. Subsequently, he worked for producer-director V. Shantaram's Sehara. In 1965, the film Geet Gaaya Pattharon Ne showcased his musical brilliance. 'Tere Khayalo Mein Hum' sung by Asha Bhosle, 'Saanson Ke Taar Par' and 'Dhadakan Ki Taal Par' sung by Asha Bhosle and Mahendra Kapoor, became hit songs.

Unfortunately, Ramlal Choudhry soon was out of work due to the scheming of some powerful music directors and renowned producers. He decided to produce his own film with a partner, Charles. He started the film, Tyagi under the banner 'Panna Pictures' but sadly for Choudhry, the partner left him stranded. Choudhry lost a lot of money and a whisper campaign started in the industry maligning his career as a producer. He didn't work again in the industry.

Thanks Madhu for sharing that insight about Ramlal. For a moment I was thrown by the name Ramlal Choudhary, then I realized it's the same Ramlal of Geet Gaya Pattharon ne fame.

I was saddened to hear that he was victim of 'filmi' politics 😒. I read somewhere that he was under contract with V. Shantaram who did not allow him to work elsewhere and also stopped using him due to some misunderstanding between them. As a result, his career as a music director suffered. 😒

I love the songs from Sehra (1963) especially:

'Pankh hote to' - such a beautiful composition in Raag Bhoopali

and

Tum to pyaar ho

I also love 'Tere khayalon mein hum' by Asha Bhosle from Geet Gaya Pattharon ne

Priya, 'Pankh hote to ...and Tere khayalon mein , my all time fav songs, and in fact a visual treat.

Priya mentioned Raag Bhoopaali ... In Carnatic music, the same raag is called “Mohana Raaga.

The wordings of the compositions in morning ragas Bhairav and Bhoopali, Abhogi, Jogia... are often meant to rouse the gods themselves, or describe Shiva in all his rough-hewn glory, or to offer gratitude for the passing of the night and the coming of another dawn!

Each raga is uniquely defined by its pitch collection and characteristic phrase. Each raga has some mood associated with it that can be related to its pitches and their relations one with another. Certain pitch classes commonly occur in ragas conveying a particular kind of emotion. The pitch set of a raga and its characteristic phrase establish the flavor or mood of the raga. It is a well-accepted notion that there are 11 basic moods in north Indian classical music that can be depicted through a combination of music, dance and poetry.

In 50s and 60s Bollywood music composers are mostly trained singers and musicians, who composed their music based on some Classical Raagas,

“Raag Bhupali” is a Hindustani classical raga. It presents a pentatonic scale (uses 5 notes in ascending and descending scale). Most of the songs in this raga are based on the Bhakti rasa. Some dearly loved, all-time favourite Bollywood film melodies like this --
