From the movie Boot Polish and a very mellow, lilting tune from Shankar-Jaikishen, unlike what they usually do. Very minimal string arrangements.

And Asha and Talat sing it so beautifully. It simply tugs at the heart-strings.

It's so perfect for the situation- the boy is looking for his lost sister and he imagines her as the little girl that's dancing.

Bhot Polish!!! I've watched this movie twice or thrice when I was about 10. And I was just in awe with the little one's acting! The story was heart-wrenching and the songs... beautiful!! 😭❤️

This movie is heart-wrenching and so are the songs- this one and tumhare hain tumse daya maangte hain .

I can’t watch it though. I find it hard to watch movies that show kids in misery. Kids and animals.

Mukesh's voice adds to the beauty of Duniya banane wale.. I've been singing it since I was 5!

Even the peppy dance number chalat Musafir moh liyo re pinjde wali muniya .. is so lovely and the language used just touches the soul... How sweet, lovely, heartwarming and gut wrenching.

Same here mumma! I haven't re-watched the movie. I am all in for torture and stuff but kids and animals... Cruelty towards them is just un-watchable. 🥺

This movie and 'Maya' are so similar and both star Dev Anand! The story of a rich boy who leaves home to live among the poor and learns the true meaning of love. Sadhna is gorgeous in this and has great chemistry with Dev which was explored even more in the fabulous 'Hum Dono'. Posting this evergreen favorite from Hum Dono that had songs that remain unparalleled to date.

But Abhi na jao chhodkar holds a special place in my heart.

Although these songs are evergreen, for me the picturization elevates them even more. I enjoy watching them as much as I enjoy listening to them. And Dev and Sadhna are just so gorgeous in this - just as much as Rafi and Asha's voices and the tune by Jaidev.

Add to that Sahir's lyrics with the casual nok-jhok between them and you have perfection.

And she proves that she can 'nibhao' when they face such a 'muqaam' that 'aazmaos' them, particularly when he's going through a low phase and she pulls him up with the very same song, but this time with wholly different lyrics. The parallels Sahir draws never fails to amaze me! Such a beautiful call back to the sweet promises they made when they were in love!

Just as 'Abhi na jao' makes me want to smile at its playfulness, 'Jahan mein aisa kaun hai' makes me want to cry at its sheer poignance. How does Sahir do this?
