Many more such articles makes it impossible to forget or accept and move on. It is not going to be easy. Yesterday I stepped out for the first time since the elections. Maybe I am overreacting but I was a little anxious. I have been hearing or reading about racist remarks made to friends of friends at gas stations and stores from the day after the elections.

Sorry folks I have not been active here...Have been trying to process this new reality and talking with people on FB and with Grumpy on PMs...
While I have little faith in Trumps ability to actually deliver what he promised about betterment of manufacturing in the USA...I do recognize that he has a knack for feeling the pulse of the people and turning things his way...so may be he will indeed be a better negotiator on trade deals.

I also think that most of his supporters are not racist...they are driven by their own economic reality, and voted for Trump because they think it will improve their job prospects in this economy, where they think the odds have been gradually stacked against the American workers...

Regarding Hillary's loss...it was really disappointing to see that in many ways America didn't disprove my fear that it is not yet matured to treat men and women the same...,and measure them by the same stick...but i do look forward to the day when this will not be a point of debate...and we won't sense an inherent bias for women running for the highest office.

Regarding his character and temperament, and some of his supporters racist behavior ...we can only keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best...

This is the best I can do with being optimistic...

Just a few examples of some of my friends who are paying the price.

One of my Sikh friends who wears a turban was walking out of Columbia and he got spat on and was told F You, shit colored Arab. Mind you he is a second generation American born. His parents are born in America and so is he. How do you tell him to move on? I am not being cynical but this is reality

My girlfriend who was getting gas in Arizona was told honey its time for you to leave. She is also born and brought up in Arizona. She was speechless and just felt sick to her stomach and sat in the car and cried all the way home.

And this is just sexample of Sikh cases. What about other Minorities? A friend of mine who is a social worker in NYC told me she spent most of her time on Thursday calming a 14 year Columbian who got punched in the face. I don't know where all of this will end but its scaring me to the core.

I agree with Sush that some of Trump supporters are racists and some genuinely voted for a change but the reality is that racism always existed and its just coming out more due to the election

That's horrible!! I am trying to feel optimistic ...but the reality is grim😕

Some data has come out...Trump got 1-2 million less votes than Romney, but Hillary got 7 million less votes compared to Obama. A lot of democratic voters just didn't go out to vote...which is what tilted the election in Trumps favor. Overall, she will still get more votes than him...but the lack of turn out in key states like Michigan and Ohio costed the democrats this election.

This is our version of Brexit!

We hate it to be the bearer of bad news, however, this one is gonna be really sad for all the millions of fans out there. We are talking about none other than actress Sanaya Irani's comeback show, 'Meenu Mausi'.

In the most unfortunate of occurrences, 'Meenu Mausi' has been SCRAPPED and will not be airing anymore.

Yes! That's right.

The show has been in the news since day one where apart from it being a comeback for Sanaya Irani, it was also set to star Harshad Chopra. And playing the other roles were actors Hiten Tejwani and Chhavi Mittal.

Cheer Up, all of U.
This is exactly how I felt when Modi came to power- the Muslims here would have felt worse...But so far there has been no open persecution. The undercurrents were always there, will always be.
Just like G said- Racism was always there. Nothing anyone can do about it- be it Obama or Trump, the situation will be the same.

My brother and his wife in US are divided on this, though they were both rooting for Hillary. Surprisingly, my SIL now feels Trump will be better, so does many of my brother's sensible friends. Hang on to that optimism, Sush.

As for me, I can vouch for the fact that Modi is the best thing that happened to India in a long time!👍🏼 (Barring Kalam, of course- but he didn't have this power.) I don't mind cutting down on my expenses and feel penniless every time I have to part with change- a very small sacrifice for our country.

Chick, my friend...you speak words of wisdom! I am realizing how much have I been hooked to the "liberal media" and the so called "elite" way of thinking...Right now in the US, people are worried about their jobs...and their job prospects...the economy is not working for the middle class...What I thought I escaped when I moved to the US regarding class reservation and politicians who were selling out the country...the majority is feeling like that in the US...except ..they have no place to escape to...The more I talk to the working class people here...the more I understand ...why they voted for Trump.

In many ways there are lot of parallels between Modi and Trump...Modi did deliver for Gujarat before he came into national fame...Trump has never done anything for anyone but himself, he hasn't even been that successful in running his business...and the fact that he is encouraging racist behavior in people is concerning...but I recall Modi had serious accusations regarding racial riots as well...

I have little faith...but I must hold on to optimism...Things do surprise... ...and many times it is really not as bad as it appears in the beginning...

I am so glad that you are feeling positive about India...I hear the same sentiments from others including my mom...I hope I feel the same way about America in six months from now...
