Off topic, but did you guys read Shenaz's Open letter? It was a really brave move by her and a lot of people have taken to it positively. It is natural that people would instantly suspect it was for cheap publicity, but read in another post that it may have been triggered by a recent rape case or something, not sure...But I am sure many if not all here can relate to this, me included... I saw Ashish too tweeting about having to open the morning newspaper to see rape/murder etc subah subah.. so it is not that no one is affected...

Whatever the reason is, I loved it that she was brave enough to write that. She wrote to big people in entertainment industry and the PM too, hoping to get their attention i assume...

I loved Mardaani... such films should be made more... Just hope one of those people she wrote will spend their time and money to do something on this...

I am really, truly liking Shenaz. She and Barun are so cute offscreen and I love their constant leg pullings and teasing but even individually I think she is a very brave and smart girl. 👍🏼

Awesome interview by Barun and the video of Barun-Shenaz

Barun Sobti: Ayushmann Khurrana & Sushant Singh Rajput Have Opened The Horizon For Us

Television heartthrob Barun Sobti has captured hearts on the small screen and is now all set to make the women go weak in their knees on the big screen. Ahead of his Bollywood debut with Main Aur Mr. Riight', Barun gets candid about his film, experience of working on films and television & much more. Read on...

You have been a star in television. What made you shift gears to films?

The script attracted me in the film. From the third serial I did, I used to comprehend the characters in my head and likewise with this film. Good thing about the film is that the script is ready, unlike television. When I played it in my head, I liked it and that is how I decided to do the film.

Do you think Bollywood has become lot kinder towards television actors now?

Of course, I agree to it. Actually what has happened is that actors like Ayushmann Khurrana and Sushant Singh Rajput have done so well, that they have opened the horizon for us and have convinced the directors that you can hire a television actor! I am lucky that I am here right now. It is a good time to be in the industry. The film and TV bifurcation is vanishing. It is a good time, and I would lie if I would say that I haven't thought about it. Even for those type casted actors, it is a good time for them too since the writing has improved.

Do you think after the advent of Saas-Bahu sagas, the quality of TV shows has deteriorated?

You can't blame anyone because it has happened because of everyone. If someone made it, others watched it too. That was the need at that point probably. Yes partly, the quality has deteriorated. I remember when I was young; the quality of TV shows was amazing. But now television is getting better. Few years ago, TV had a patch that films went through in the 90s.

How was it working with Shenaz Treasury?

Giggling is the only one word I can describe being with her. She keeps laughing all the time. She giggles a lot.

You got to meet Bappi Lahiri. Tell us about your experience...

It was entertaining to meet Bappi Lahiri. Music to me is the most difficult art. It is creating something from your head than having seen anything! It holds high regards for me. But I didn't go crazy after meeting him. The only time I got crazy was seeing Sachin Tendulkar. He is the only man beyond humanity and a stature like that.

Which other directors are you keen on working with?

A lot of people but I really admire Dibakar Banerjee and Vikas Bahl films a lot and wish to work with them.

Whom do you idolize?

I don't believe in idolizing. I just look up to people like my father, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

Television has greater reach and fame than movies. So what actually made you shift gears?

TV becomes redundant. The 60 scenes that I am doing may be same, but the 40 scenes will be different in movies. I didn't want to be redundant. I wanted to learn more and wanted to explore.

Now that you have decided to do movies, are you open to going back at television?

I am a very selfish actor and want to do things that are nice. Whether it is TV or films, I will accept anything. But I won't be doing daily soaps because I have seen that a human mind cannot produce that much. It is impossible. Or else you need to have five different writers for everyday which is not possible financially because only first couple of episodes can fool the audiences and then it is only about making money. It is run by the account books after the first week of telecast.

Since you have done both television and films, which one is better?

You can feel the belongingness in TV because you have to go back to the same set. TV is safer unlike films which either works or doesn't. Also in films you have to make acquaintances quicker. I won't say I like any one better but I like both for their own reasons.

Which have been your favourite Indian television shows?

I loved Malgudi Days, it was my absolute favorite. Also there was a show called Dhoop Kinare, a Pakistani serial. I used to love Dekh Bhai Dekh. From the West, I love Homeland, Newsroom, The Good Wife, Friends of course. I like White Collar, the first episode of Breaking Bad.

Did the Hollywood serials inspire you as an actor?

As an actor we are beyond comparison with Hollywood. The way their serials are written is sheer creativity.

If you wanted to act in a remake of a Hollywood serial, which one would it be?

I think someone is making White Collar but I wasn't sure how good it will turn out because in India, TV promises something and turns out something else. So let's see how it works.

Your forthcoming project...

It is called Satra Ko Shaadi Hai' and is a real time middle class scenario. It is a quirky character like the ones that are in the North Indian households.

Just another fabulous interview 😊 Loved all the replies in bold pink are the highlight for me.How deeply he feels about his work 👏 how reasonable ,profound and coherent he is about his field 👍🏼 I hope there isn't any doubt left about his wisdom and dedication towards his work and choices.
