Samarkhand - This is the place where it all started for Mughal KIngdom - This place is in Present day Kazakhastan. What prompted Babur to move away, come to Kabul and then move into Hindustan ? This amazes me - And Once Humayun lost it and was vagabond for 16 years, it is not that he shut shop and started living in Persia. There is something in this land that has made him to finaly come back and win it. And then comes Akbar who is probably the first Hindustani Mughal born in Umerkot and had a love and affinity for this great land, that he died in Agra. His rule and governance to some extent looks beyond Ashoka's achievements to me - Not read Ashoka in detail but Akbar is closer to us in terms of timelines and hence can relate much better.Babur towards the end of his days, did not like to live in Hindustan, it seems. He hated the rains and monsoons and craved for the mountains for Afgan/Kabul.This land has attracted everyone from far-off but our Kings have never gone about invading another country and making it our own. Except Raja Raja and Rajendra of Cholas COnquered Srilanka , Indonesia but not sure how they let it be Governed.Babur's ancestors or he himself when he was 13 would never have imagined that he would found an empire in the great nation of Hindustan and rule it for 300+ years.History is fascinating and quest for human's need to conquer territory is even more !!!Let's have some ideas exchange on this.
Interesting observations.
Samarkhand, was in a way carved out by Timur, and post his death, his vast kingdom was divided among his sons, there was always a competition among the Timurid descendants, and they had the saying, "Taqt ya takhta" (throne or coffin)
Babur's father was the ruler of Ferghana province, and with his freak death, Babur was made the king at 12-13. He attacked and won Samarkhand thrice, but, due to various reasons had to leave the province each time. But, throughout his life Samarkhand remained a dream, that he had written in his memoirs, and something that his great grandson Shah Jehan tried to accomplish.
He had a younger brother, Jahangir, who was made the ruler of Ferghana while he was in Samarkhand. 😳
