My parents only spoke to us in Gujarati at home, and had a strict No English rule at home, and they still insist on it to this day...but it's very difficult because English has just become default! But I really feel like it was the best rule - even though I can't read/write (though my parents use to make us go to lessons for that during our summer breaks in India!), speaking your own mother tongue is really important in my opinion. It's sad to me though that each younger cousin's Gujarati has deteriorated so much to the point that the youngest three can't speak at all.

I do hope that when/if I have kids, I will be able to instill this rule as well, though I have heard from many that this is very difficult. LOL if my dad read this, he would be one proud dad!

It was interesting to get all your perspectives about this!

Most tend to regurgitate what's in their CV in any case so I can understand the zoning out 😆

I've heard my nieces and nephews in India speak Hindi with an accent!
Where is that coming from? They think its very uncool to speak in hindi.
