nice topic Rivs... but I shall have to say I have never voted till now, becos I was never in my hometown during elections...

I too like Gita feel that a person should stand from one constituency where they have stayed for long and people there know them...
I guess they choose more than one place to be safe

Normally I'm a patient person. But I'm losing my patience now. I can't take this Billi and her victory anymore. I felt like throwing my remote at the TV last nite .

Rivs, it feels like LHCC 🤗. Good topic.

I too like Gitey feel that a person should be allowed to contest from only one constituency where he has lived for a min of 15 years.

If it's allowed as in this case and he gets elected from both constituencies then will he be able to do justice to both? And if he is allowed to choose then locals will feel cheated if he chooses the other constituency.

Normally, I too am a very positive person. But I'm losing my positivity now. I can't believe I wrote some harsh words for Gul. And I had started my journey in this forum defending Gul for Zoyaan.

wonder if there is a provision in the indian constitution...

if there is ..!!!

a person contesting from one or more constituencies...

what if he manages to win from two places..then he will see to his interest and focus

on his much preferred one..

then for the other...election wld surely have to be held again..waste of time and money

so a i guess a person should contest from the place he was born..

knows the language..lived there..understands the problem..

I'll watch it Gitey coz I haven't missed a single epi even when I've gone out for dinner and you've told me to skip the epi, I've watched it on the sly the next day 😆.

Call me old school but I never could digest Zoyaan even at the concept level. When I read the synopsis of QH before deciding to watch it, at that time itself I couldn't accept it. I couldn't accept a girl who is in love with a man gets married to her devar when the man is alive and still loves the girl and she loves him. I started watching QH becoz of Zoya as she was a welcome change from the run-of-the-mill female leads.

I thought somewhere down the line Gul forgot about Zoyaan and bang... that promo came out. I got a gola in my tummy when it was finally executed. Besides the way it was executed was stupid. An accidental 'haan haan' nikaah in the name of twist was ridiculous. What followed (Asad sending Zoya, Zoya sticking by it against her wishes, Zoya or Ayaan not explaining what exactly happened, nobody checking Zoya's full name in the Vakalatnama et al) was equally ridiculous. They dint even prove it's invalidity in the end. What was it's purpose in the end? Nothing. QH lost a lot of it's viewers. Thank heavens there wasn't a romantic angle here. I would've stopped watching too.

It's very clear that I still haven't gotten over Zoyaan even though it went below Razia's carpet ages ago 😆.

thanks for the responses...I know many have done this before Modi...contest from two constituencies, but I guess I was just not around to know about it.

Like Neena, I have never voted. I was residing in a different country than the one I could vote in every time. Anyways, even though legally this is allowed, I find it morally and ethically incorrect. Like one of you pointed out, what happens when the candidate is selected from both places. Does he work for the betterment of both? Or he has to choose one place over the other?

What about the people who voted for him and were not chosen by him? Wouldn't he want to choose a cash rich constituency? Plus in this case, Modi is the PM candidate to matters get even worse if he does become the PM. Will he then juggle between being a PM and the MP from 2 places? It is all so confusing.

I don't think this is about being safe. In other cases it might be, but based on pre-poll popularity I doubt Modi needs to contest from 2 places.

Honestly speaking, a lot of laws in India do no make sense. Unfortunately despite being the biggest democracy our state is run on autocratic moods of those in the Raj/Lok sabha. Our political system needs a complete overhaul.

In US, some bills are put up on the government website for voting. There is promotion of this so that the common man can read the proposed bill and actually vote for or against it. I wonder when our government will reach that point.

Anyways...please feel free to discuss this topic or introduce another one.

@Anu - When I read the news article, I too thought of LHCC and how we used to debate politics there. Hoping we can have some good discussions and debates here too.

Rivs firstly an excellent use of the forum to discuss issues as serious as the elections and also very timely .

I am not sure i want to comment about the whims and fancies of some of the candidates and their shenanigans but yes i would do like to share some stuff which you may or may not be aware of .

We have access to the net and hence the best thing to do is to find out about the candidates ...their background and a comparison . something what we were sitting and doing last night post QH !
