This really played on Nikhil's mind as he was leaving the village after refusing to dadaji. His guilty conscience arose... of not being able to save his brother in his childhood.

You must have seen in the flashbacks by now... they were on the roof of their house and his elder brother akshay slipped and nikhil grabbed his hand... his brother kept shouting... mera haath mat chodna nikhil... but nikhil couldn't hold on strongly and his brother slipped and fell and died.

So as he was leaving the village after refusing to marry lajjo... he started getting very upset... kept remembering his falling brother's plea and his dadaji's plea ... of not letting go of the hand...

he got so upset that he almost brokedown on the side of the road crying. then decided that he has to save lajjo... so went back to marry her.

i doubt... why was Lajjo batnamed?why Nikhil's name was involved with Lajjo in the first place??

Adi she broke her own wedding over a dowry issue. ..thats how she became badnaam in the village.

And then she wanted to run away as everyone was taunting her... and while escaping she almost drowned in the river... nikhil saved her and carried her home as she was injured. Seeing her coming back in his arms after going missing for a whole night...villagers started taunting & cursing her & her family even more.

Dadaji intervened and asked nikhil to marry her to save her & her family's dignity.
