I imagine he is happy in that space too.. he does independent alternate kinda movies.. which dont resort to heavy promotions.. if he is one of the Roark factory I can see why he couldnt care for consumerism.. 😆

Roark never cared to showcase his own work and in fact despised the whole idea of so called public acceptance and disproval in this architecture diaspora of the age.. to the extent that he was ready to destroy his own building to avoid the travesty 😃

on that note I doubt someone with that philosophy cares for a mass opinion too much and goes forth in promoting and advt. his work to be part of this big industrial PR exercise.. I could be wrong but his choices reflect so

He didn't care for double standards or someone to tell him what to do. However he understood economics for survival which he chose to earn differently and not influence him. To be Ina movie industry and say I don't care if people watch or not doesn't make a profit and hence it's not sustainable. So if u take a bigger theme - along the lines of atlas shrugged, they were against govt rules against laissez fairer just like govt telling tesla they cant sell without a dealer...like the concept of "for the greater good"...a Peter Jackson is no less a roarke or George r r Martin...

And in case just coz someone quotes roarke doesn't make them so...tho I have no idea who mr khandelwal is and what he is and isn't...

this is no conviction debate by any sense of the word.. all he said was fountainhead is his fave read and roarke his fave character.. and if you were aware of his career path.. you would see where he is coming from.. or that he can relate to the maverick style.. he was a graphic designer/ and into production work or something.. ekta kapoor dragged him into acting.. he worked behind the screen b4.. he was the blue eyed boy of tv with his role in ekta's daily and his persona.. but he gave it up and took to a different youth oriented army show when saas bahu ruled the roost.. and then left that show too when it was on top coz he was creatively not motivated.. he made the transition to movies and has consistently been doing small budget, content oriented alternative movies which mostly get positive reviews..

not every movie in bollywood is looking for 100 cr. and goes loony on promotion. .these are small films with limited release and cult viewing as it is.. so its not like he has to have the attitude of 'I dont care about consumerism' ..more like the choices he has made have catered to a small section of viewers.. and he isn't making apparent efforts of networking in big bolly circles to make any leaps.. he has to have some thought process driving him is all i wanted to project here.. who takes what from a piece of fiction is rather subjective.. and doesn't follow a prototype per se..

and I totally don't see the tesla debate tangent in the context here..

But generally the best directors producers actors have done so not following prototypes and some have had great commercial success despite their thought that it might not do well. Not every movie is expected to rake in 100 cr as u said. But the true roarkes of industry have managed to do just that with their innovation and creativity in cinema... I was replying to a blanket statement against consumerism which feels (to me) like u meant to imply cronyism...

You have mentioned Vidya, don't forget she has a BW corporate honcho hubby behind her ...
