Actually telangana used to be a part of Hyderabad state before independence..

After independence, Govt merged Hyderabad state with parts of Madras state to form Andhra Pradesh..Hyderabad being a big city and bringing most of the revenue to the state, people in telangana feared about funds being diverted to other Andhra regions and also jobs going to them..There were some serious agitations in 50's and 60's but it cooled after that..

After the exponential growth of Hyderabad in 2000's, again the agitation started and now finally telangana formed..

Hyderabad is going to be joint capital for next 10 years.. The issue here is lot of people moved from Andhra to Hyd and invested in properties, so it difficult now to just let it go and invest in a new capital.

Also there are lot of cultural and language differences between the 2 regions. Telangana is strongly influenced by Nawabi culture and lots of urdu influence.

Also politicians did their job of dividing the people
