"Zaalim zamane ki choti behen, dushman duniya"
😆
A simple enough dialogue...at first glance, just, funny. But we pause, and then realize the real brilliance. Not only technical (two alliterations in one sentence: zalim zamana, dushman duniya), but also allusive to what is about to happen in the next half a minute. I mean the bhai-behen atoot rishta that is about to be established😃
Not only does Khushi's trick here establishes her street smarts, it also very cleverly upends the traditional view of the raksha bandhan, when sisters tie the rakhi on their brothers' wrists to remind them of their duty to protect them from harm. Here Khushi goes one up and convinces the Maharathi😆, that it is for his own protection.
Payal-Buaji scene was so heartbreaking in its simplicity, and so natural. Nothing filmy about it...Payal is having trouble overcoming her heartbreak, and Buaji is at a loss how to help her. She does invoke Khushi's tenacity, but knows Payal is much weaker and will take time to recover. In the end, she has few answers for Payal's questions and just stands there sadly.
Another gem of a pun: Anjali-Akash conversation. "Agar yeh AR nahin bana raha toh kaun bana raha hai"...to which she replie..."bana rahe ho!! Humko bana rahe ho..."
😆
Don't want to end without a special mention of Shyam and the smooth way he plays Buaji. By delicately offering to go elsewhere because there are two girls in the house, he succeeds in firmly establishing his "sharafat", never to be doubted until it is too late. Abhaas was amazing.
Heineken has so beautifully described the first few minutes of the episode, and reading that made me realize another technical brilliance. Those few minutes, and those lyrics were really the introduction to the episode, the rest of which was spent in elaborating on the theme. Arnav's harshness and strength, Payal's pensiveness, Akash's infatuation and plans, and Khushi's tenacity.
