I see initial discussions about Rape and attitudes towards it...
Here is my take...
A country like ours has a really wide array of beliefs, attitudes, knowledge and even common sense.
To the supposed "sensible" information of any kind.. be it the idiot babus talking or what we see on screen or eve what we see and experience on a forum like this.. there is the liberty of using common sense and knowledge to draw conclusions and take decisions on what to do. So to say.. if we se our fav actor smoking on screen... chances are the "sensible" are not gonna get influenced.

But on the other hand.. we cant ignore the fact that there are many who get influenced, who start imitating cause it appears cool to them. So in that context media and entertainment industry can be an influencing factor for many. We may not be able to identify with that but it cant be ignored.

As for attitides.. experience begins at home and attitudes are formed and reinforced from the surrounding. Even a small things like the boy doesnt pick up his plate after eating cause the dad doesnt and the girl is expected to do these things cause society expects a trained aaya by teh time she turns 18 is what may grow up seeing and reconfirming to themselves that it is the way to go... the accepted norm.
So attitudes towards women in all walks of life... begin early... and when one learns to see a woman as an object, someone who is not an equal.. the behaviour towards them will reflect that!! There will be no regard, no respect and no shame for hurting one

Rape is not a cultural thing... its a physical need more primitive in the male gender that needs to be attended to. And why they do it can have a cultural reasoning or a behavioural or psychological issue.

But the respect and sensitivity towards women in those men will be low of non existent irrespective of any country its happening it.
Its not like every man in the western world respects and holds his female counter part in high esteem. The stereotypes exist everywhere... but in cultures like ours... its not just the wrng value systems that facilitate such attitudes but even religion is twisted to support it.

And ya.. its not an over night change that can happen... people's perceptions and attitdes need a 360 degree change and the fear of law and law makers need to be ingrained. When I know I can get away with any crime.. it becomes a thrill of doing something and just getting away with it. Its a ego boost

As for attitude shift.. it will mainly lie on the women's shoulders how they bring up their boys!! Unfortunately in a lot of homes...this gender difference is facilitated by the women
