Um, well, I haven't properly read a book in quite some time, 😕though my most recent attempt has been The Assassin's Song (coming-of-age story with a desi touch; it looks at whether we can choose our own path in life or if following what's been set out for us by parents, destiny, etc., is more overpowering).
I've got lots of random, partially/mostly-read books stacked in piles, but I find that I always fall back on classics. There's the sense that they aren't just written for mass consumption; you can see the effort the author has taken to weave the story and develop the plot just as much as the characters. And ab toh I've been hearing quite a bit about this North and South...
I first read P&P as a teenager, mostly out of curiosity and the influence of elder siblings. There's something about the subtlety and simplicity that makes you appreciate the beauty of a time when things weren't so oversexed. I used to joke that if I were white and Christian, I'd have been perfectly at ease in Austen's world. I don't know if any of you have seen Lost in Austen, but it was an interesting take on how a 21st-century woman adjusts to Victorian England.
@ bold: That's my main reason for loving fiction so much: you actually get to understand human behaviour and open your eyes to the world through different perspectives. And when I'm too slow to understand characters and their motivations on my own, analyses come to the rescue!😃
Thanks Sanika for the PM!
