First year is not as important as your other years, its pretty similar to advanced higher stuff you do in school...

you'll need to pass your modules, 40% is the pass mark lol... but i don't think it contributes to your final classification, your modules from 2nd and 3rd year are more important in that respect

Couldn't tell you for UK. In the US, all years count equally. In my first year, I was taking a lot of upper level classes so it "counted". But the rest you're hearing from the UK folks here. My suggestion would be to take all four years seriously. That way, going into your second year won't be as tough. :-)
