Sonia!!!! *hugs* I was waiting to discuss "Can you keep a Secret?" with you😃. Dude, I loved the first half of the book. It was hilarious.....especially Emma's thoughts are so funny🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. She is a pretty desperate girl, but I liked her nonetheless😆. Eeee mels *hugs* I cant believe you actually listened to my recommendations... Usually people say they'll read it but only for courtesy's sake not coz they actually mean it... But nonetheless I'm glad you did read it and like it! 😃 And yeah the book is superrrr-funny... One of the funniest scenes in the book is where Emma's friend barges into the office and asks Emma to 'look over some numbers' with her which is code for 'hey lets go to starbucks' and Emma, knowing that Jack is there and aware of their codeword, goes 'No I'm afraid I cant... we'll go through the numbers later' but her friend doesn't get the message and keeps on insisting and so they start arguing and finally Jack, amused, is all 'Emma just go look over the numbers with her' 😆 And then I found their lift scene so cute when Jack confides in Emma about the 'Leopold file' his personal code with his friends for bunking work and going to starbucks. Its like the first secret they share...
Connor was so lame. He was a bit too considerate and way too dumb....lmao. I felt like throwing something at him when he asked for Emma's permission to call each other 'darling' ROFL!!!!!!!!!!! LOL I think Emma described him perfectly... 'Ken' as in 'Barbie and Ken' 😆 For sometime I thought he was maybe bisexual because he was so into Jack, even ignoring Emma for him.
Jack was good too. I loved the way he kept on teasing Emma and all. And you know what? Maybe it's because the story is a first person narrative or maybe the writing is so basic, but whatever it is, when Emma would get embarrassed, I could actually empathize with her😆. Like when she came face to face with Jake, then the archieve room bit was really really embarrassing. When they got caught, I actually got so embarrassed that I wanted to stop reading. And then the second date fiasco was really awkward...lol. I totally get what you mean... Emma's sort of despo, but in a very likable, relatable sorta way.... It's not the over-the-top desponess you see in India soap operas... And anyways her situations warrants sympathy... I mean divulging all your secrets to a stranger during a near-death experience only to found out that he's your company's BOSS... Heck I would be pretty embarrased too! 😆
But Emma's antics are so hilarious. like when she hides herself behind the paper to escape from Jack's notice and in turn bumps into Paul. Then the entire plane bit. I loved her blabbing.....rofl. There are all these instances when Emma acted so stupidly but it was really cute and funny....lmao. Lol I loved the part where when Jack asks everyone what are they reading, and all the employees in the office name all these scholarly books such as 'History of 14th century europe' and 'proust' in french in an effort to impress him... and then finally when Emma's turn comes, she says she has read 'Great Expectations' which Jack knows she hadnt... and he's like 'why did you like the book?' and she's all'It resonated' and then another employee asks her 'What resonated?' and then she goes without thinking 'The resonances resonated' 🤣🤣🤣
Now coming to the second bit, i.e. after they start dating....I liked the entire book, but this second part took a very Mills and Boons type turn. However, overall I still liked the story although Jack did start to annoy me during the second half. Oh I completely agree... Actually this started from the last third of the book.... The tone completely shifted to serious and it was no longer funny anymore... I dont think Sophie Kinsella is that good at melodrama anyways... But the ending was cool, when he comes to her and tells her about HIS secrets. 😊
So, to sum up, I liked the book. It was really cute. Nice to see that you liked the book! 😊 What are you reading now???
