Did you guys have a teacher who made an indelible mark in your life?? In a good way or a bad way??

I was never good at math, NEVER. I used to make really bad grades on all the tests and then in 10th grade I had a teacher named Mr. Gokhale(yes an Indian) and he taught soooooooo well, now my math is amazing. I rarely make a bad grade. Ever since his class I've been good in math. He was my favorite teacher ever:))

In 4th grade I had a mean teacher, she was racist I think and she always sent me to detention and I was never a bad kid, she screamed at me and told me to shut up even if everyone else was talking. I hated her sooooooo much. She was the one who blamed me for stealing a book😭

All of my teachers were always mostly good teachers who care about students. I mean, some were very funny so I liked them a lot but I usually liked them all pretty much the same. But after I entered high school, I had this teacher Mr. Smith [he's a math teacher] and he was just so great. He was so positive about everything. Not only did he tell us to be positive and have a good attitude every day..he actually practiced what he preached! He just brightens up people's days because he is such an awesome person and teacher!!He is truly a role model 😊

I do tend to believe in this theory at times, good people face problems more than the other people. I think it's god's way of testing his people. God tests good people all the time by giving them bad times, he gives bad times so we could value the good times more:) The people who don't have bad times don't value good times at all since they don't know life could be bad too.

I agree, but there's also the notion that bad people deserve bad (luck) things so no one cares when bad stuff happens to them; and good folks deserve good so everyone cries foul when something bad happens to them. People tend to forget that life doesn't work that way, if it did, this would be heaven yeah? 😊

@ Pinks & RW ji, who decides what/who's good and what/who's bad?

My take on the HP debate...
- Yes, you can put it on the reading list or you may not (I'm not taking sides!)
- I've read the books too many times in recent years (in fact in the last 3 years I had read nothing but HP over and over), and I don't intend to read them again until I have 9 year olds of my own to read the book to, so even if it's on the list I won't be reading it (I think I just took a side!! 😕)
- I could still be a part of any HP discussion you throw at me tho, so I'm still also very much on that side

Did I ever mention that I am an ardent HP fan myself! RW ji, we can be partners in crime for this one!

Come on, Smita ji...of all people not u. There isn't anything like rotten luck.

I think it all depends on situations. How many of us are exceptionally talented at one thing or the other, though? 😕 There are many people who may be just mediocre in things that they do, and may not have any exceptional qualities. Just giving a hypothesis. Just because someone has an interest in something, doesn't mean they'll be actually good at it. How can one know what is meant for us?

I do think that all things, good or bad, happen for a reason. Sometimes, the situation is such that things really are not in our hands. It reminds me of a line from our previous book, that if you fill a tub with water, and take out the plug and ask the water to go anywhere it wants; it's not really giving the water much choice but to go down the only opening it has, right.

Each one of is exceptionally talented, though we don't recognise it always! I am sorry, but I am those hardcore, confident optimists who even hate the thought of pessimism. I can step into Hitler's shoes if I feel pessimism is increasing (and btw, I feel Hitler was a great man!)

@Green, you are not giving the water a choice as long as u don't null the gravitational pull! Same goes with us, if we want to take our own decisions, we need to make choices and shun external pressure!

Well, I won't ask for details. 😳😳

I think we all do have things in our lives that does make everything worthwhile. I have had situations in my life, which at that particular moment, did make me feel that what rotten luck I have. Then I realized that I do have so many more things in my life, which I believe, I am lucky to have.
I think most of us are quite privileged, but we tend to dwell on the smallest of things. I remember when we were in high school and if I would get even one question a bit wrong, and someone would ask me how my exam went, I'd tell them it wasn't great. When we'd get our results, obviously so many people who scored much lower would all look at me in disgust saying, THIS is what you get when you didn't do great. 😳 Point is, for some people scoring a 90% is still rotten luck, because they believe they could've gotten a 100, and for others, getting a 70% is still lucky, because they think that it is the best they could get. It all depends on one's perspective, doesn't it. 😃

@Aladin, 👏👏👏

I believe in the concept of luck...just look at Jeb Bush/George Bush.
They may have worked for what they are but the fact is ,it was 1000 times easier for them because they come from a family of politicians and investment bankers.
There path was considerably smoother because they were surrounded by people who knew how to get things done.
I would compare luck to exposure and opportunity.

Actually, I am a firm believer in luck. Hard work is important, that much is completely true, because at the end of the day, we don't really know our luck factor. However, some people do really have all the luck. It's a mixed bag, I think and we all do get our share of 'good luck' as well as 'bad luck'. 😃😃

What would have happened if they had decided to be something else other than a politician or investment banker??? Wouldn't they have been struggling like every other person??? And what if Bill Gates never bought the DOS software from some crack for 50 grands, and had IBM refused to crack a deal with him??? It's all about the decisions we make.

8 more minutes before i have to leave, hopefully I can finish the remaining posts too!

@ The whole female protagonist for fantasy novels/movies and witches sounding/being evil...Well, the beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder! It's just our perception.

We've had great female characters in many superhero stories/comics where they were much more better than the superhero himself..but they never had a title dedicated to themselves.

"We are not fools, Percy Jackson," Mrs. Dodds said. "It was only a matter of time before we found you out. Confess, and you will suffer less pain."

I didn't know what she was talking about.

All I could think of was that the teachers must've found the illegal stash of candy I'd been selling out of my dorm room. Or maybe they'd realized I got my essay on Tom Sawyer from the Internet without ever reading the book and now they were going to take away my grade. Or worse, they were going to make me read the book..

In school were you ever in a position where you were being held as a suspect for something you weren't even aware of?

Oh yes, planning out the mass-bunk in 11th standard. I wasn't the only one behind it, there was a whole bunch of us 😆 I can't even count what all I did, and got blamed for during my engineering days. Was one of the bad kids at coll 😉

Not one, but many though can't think of anyone who made a negative impact. It was all positive 😃 Worth mentioning is the principal of my school...She is one lady who knows how to mold soft clay into responsible citizens! Hats-off to her knowledge and dedication.

On a side-note...My fave prof from HP series is Prof. Snape😆

And Rowling pulled it off too.
And look at Hermione..she could give any wizard a run for his money.😊.
But we should pool our resources....Come up wuith names of books with Strong female characters .....only few come to mind.Man I don't remember reading a mainstream book with a strong female character:Jane Eyre was one..Vanity fair maybe

Read the Shopaholic series 😆

@The Greek Mythological conversation...U guys are now forcing me to do a research on it!

No I don't want to argue either. My views about "God and People" aren't that generous! It's better we just stick to the book, and not get into that conversation at all. This thread would not be enough 😆 😆
