Besides, I believe that Paulo wanted to create a story with nice oriental mysticism... That is what he did...

@being active: LOL, I see that! But, I say: "Go watch a movie!" or something else to enjoy your Holi...
We'll not mind the early hibernation... 😃

Antarctica is a desert and a beautiful one too 😊 I haven't read "The Life of Pi", once I read it I might like the sea more than the land.
Movie and Holi both are off-limits for now, but if u want me to go an early hibernation, I have others way doing that too 😊

NOPE... Nobody WANTS you to go for your early hibernation, but if you are typing away on the computer when you could be enjoying a lovely day, I'd urge you to do the latter... 😃

And, we will definitely include THE LIFE OF PI for our reading group, and you'll LOVE that book... It is flawless! 😃

I have "Three cups of tea" already on my list. Should add "Life of Pi" too...Was just wondering if u have ever read "The monk who sold his ferrari"? My mom recommended it a good number of times, but I haven't had a chance yet to lay my hands upon it.
What could be better than enjoying a chat with a bunch of dear frnds???

If you read "The monk who...", do let us know if we should too.

@ The next book: I was going to suggest that we discuss a more mainstream book for the next round. I haven't read "Three Cups of Tea", but to provoke a more cheerful discussion, I would've asked for suggestions from everyone to suggest/pick a book which is more in tune with our life and times...

If everyone agrees, I'd recommend: A Long Way Down. Every incident in that book is worth an energetic, boisterous discussion... so, we'll not have deep philosophy or arcane/obscure things to talk about...
Of course, other suggestions are welcome too; and if people want to stick to "Three Cups of Tea", we'll just go ahead as planned. 😃

Let us hear what the others have to say about this!

"A long way down - It is a dark comedy, playing off the themes of suicide, angst, depression and promiscuity. The story is written in the first-person narrative from the points of view of the four main characters, Martin, Maureen, Jess and JJ. These four strangers happen to meet on the roof of a high building called Topper's House in London on New Year's Eve, each with the intent of committing suicide. Their plans for death in solitude, however, are ruined when they meet. The novel recounts their misadventures as they decide to come down from the roof alive - however temporarily that may be." Just pulled it from Wiki, and this does look promising. I don't mind reading it. Does anyone know what is "Three cups of tea" all about?

"A long way down" is very interesting... I read it in 2006, and liked it so much that I have gifted it to at least 15 other friends since then... There is a lot of fodder in the book... actually.

@ "Three cups...", here is an excerpt from a review:
"Three Cups of Tea is one of the most remarkable adventure stories of our time. Greg Mortenson's dangerous and difficult quest to build schools in the wildest parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan is not only a thrilling read, it's proof that one ordinary person, with the right combination of character and determination, really can change the world."
It must be a really nice book, but the question is: How much can we discuss? How much can we imagine ourselves in the pages of this book??

I'd like to hear what the others think. I say: we should read it, but since we could not engage in thorough discussions about "The Alchemist", it'll be worth trying a book in which we can see ourselves/someone known to us...

Thats true, we should have started with a lighter book, atleast till we all had started enjoying the club and gradually moved to more deeper ones. I am fine with both of them, so lets wait to hear from the others.
