Hi everybody!

Ash - I'm with you on that one. I think when it comes to movies, script and direction play a HUGE role in the chemistry that two actors share. That's why the same two actors appear to have great chemistry in one film and almost none in another. There are some exceptions of course, like SRK-Kajol who have sizzling chemistry regardless of the script. However, for the majority of the actors it's most often the script/direction that provides the spark they share on screen.

Anu - I don't think Jai-Meera would've been any better if other actors played them. The flaw lay in their characters and the storyline. Take KANK for instance - SRK and Rani have a decent amount of chemistry together in general. In that godforsaken movie though, I saw absolutely NO chemistry at all. Why? Because Dev and Maya sucked big time. Priyanka and Harman wouldn't look half as bad together in a well directed movie as they did in Love Story 2050.

Ash, then what would you say about Love Aaj Kal?? :P.....Not that it was a perfect script but I'm willing to BET that if the roles of Jai-Meera were being done by different actors, that would make a world of a difference....so it's not JUST the script either then, right??

Saif-Deepika had NIL chemistry....just NIL....no matter HOW much they tried....lol....and it wasn't cuz of the script.

In the case of JWM....I do think it was a combination of characterization and excellent direction by Imtiaz which suited both Shahid and Kareena AND the fact that they had matured as actors by that point....

Arghhhh you HAD to mention that movie didnt you!!! 😛 😛 😛 .

I agree Saif and Deepika didnt have any sort of chemistry together. But the movie was CRAP, no matter how "modern" todays world is you cant just treat love so "practically". And Jai and Meera werent such belevabel characters anyway. But even if the movie had a good script i just cant imagine any chemistry between the two. So there you go! LOL

My view point doesnt work in all the cases BUUUT it does in many! (now here I'd give you some exampels but I'm too lazy to think of any 😛)

I would have to disagree still, Sarah....Jai-Meera weren't as terribly characterized characters as Dev and Maya....I can't see the analogy......there was a subtle layering required to Jai-Meera which I think would have worked better with actors who had some natural chemistry....but yes the scripting and half baked characterization did make it worse. I agree with both you and Ash that scripting DOES play a huge part but there is a lot to be said for natural chemistry as well....it may be rare but it speaks for a lot on-screen....some actors can make it work and some just can't....Deepika happens to be one of those actors. Saif has never had this bad of a chemistry with any of his co-actors so far...and he's done many half baked roles in his life....lol

*Edit: And I didn't find Dev-Maya to be lacking in chemistry in that movie personally.....what was lacking was all in their characterization and how retarded they were shown to be....the chemistry that SRK-Rani share otherwise was there in my opinion.

^ I agree with the natural chemistry part. See, in my opinion there's two kinds of chemistry. One is how good two people look when they're paired opposite each other. They could pose together in a beautifully shot photoshoot and their chemistry would sizzle, if they have the 'it' factor.

The other kind of chemistry is the one that comes from the way their characters interact, the way the movie is directed and the way the plot shapes up - it's the kind of chemistry where you don't just find them looking pretty as a couple, but you also root for them to get together ... you understand why they make a good couple.

SRK and Rani in KANK had the first type of chemistry - when they stood in the same frame or romanced, they looked nice together. The second kind of chemistry was totally missing because they made no sense together. In most movies, the second one overshadows the first one. It's the second kind that makes two characters work. Of course, it's important for the actors to have natural chemistry to a certain extent, but in most cases that aspect itself can't carry the movie on its shoulders. If I wanted to see two actors sizzling together just for the sake of looking good, I'd just watch an item number or a photoshoot that features them. Believe me, I think even Saif and Deepika would've managed to pull LAK off decently if Jai-Meera had been well defined and layered characters.

Then again, that theory won't apply to ALL movies and characters - but that's just my personal conclusion based on the many movies I've watched so far. :-)

How was your day? LOL, you have to watch the bhikari scene. It totally is worth breaking your pratigya! :P

Re: the 'chemistry' debate: I think we're all basically saying the same thing in roundabout ways :P LOL

@Sarah: My day was ok.....jaisa roz hota hai...haha.....I did watch that bhikari scene today.....was laughing my head off for five minutes🤣 MN had some cringeworthy bits as always.....but I managed to get beyond that to rofl over the BHIKARI🤣🤣🤣

And M's laugh was cute.....but all he did before and after that was lameeeeeee......and Nupur was acting like a bipolar gundi.....haha....but oh god, the look on the bhikari's face🤣🤣🤣.....I STILL can't stop laughing over it🤣🤣🤣

Ooh and coming back to the chemistry debate for a second again......MN today were a text book case of how even actors possessing good natural chemistry can't make it work beyond a point if the scene is so random and senseless.....lol....so this proves Sarah's point I guess then....and Ash's too! ;-)

Ash - Forgot to say this earlier ... Ramadan Kareem! :-)

Anu - LMAO I know, the entire scene made me ROFL for a good five mins. Any idea what Nupur was mad about? I started from part 2, so I didn't see whatever it was that got her so upset in the first place.

You're right - in a way we're all saying pretty much the same thing about chemistry in different ways, lol. I second the MN example - inspite of their chemistry ArTi couldn't save MN from destruction. *sigh*
