Caro, I have to agree with Roxy. It is obvious that it was a deep friendship, and it sucks that it turned out that way. But I do think it is better for you and perhaps your sanity if you try to not rekindle your friendship with him. Perhaps, now that you have contacted him, try to maintain some civility and see how he is doing. But I do think it is impossible a friendship with this said person won't be an emotional rollercoaster. I admit that he did alot for you, and you should be grateful. Though I must say, I don't think it is worth it to put yourself though that turmoil again.

Caro, I don't think this was a healthy friendship by any means. I understand why you may have felt the need to e-mail him, but you know him more than anyone else does, and you should have known that he may pull some more emotional schtick on you. I say, forget about it. Things don't always turn out the way we'd like it to be. Your better without dealing with his emotional issues.

He is a clinger. I will be blunt and say that I doubt if things are going to ever be okay, looking at the way he tried to isolate you from your friends. And also, love shouldn't be about changing everything about yourself for another person. So it seems that it is more deewangee than love on his part. Maybe, he can't be quite sane around you and he is trying to shut you out now because of that. I don't really have a good answer; that is my judgmental outsider point of view though.

NOTE: Caro, I admit that I could be perfectly wrong, considering I don't know the full extent of everything.
