@ Roxy, I agree with you on the first part. "Momento" is one of my fav films and Ghajini fails to capture that essence.
Coming to Jodhaa Akbar, Let me first point out that when it comes to historical films, there can never be 100% accuracy, only theories. There are numerous theories about Jodhaa-Akbar relationship, for instance, like Simi pointed out above, some people claim that Jodha was actually his daughter-in-law. Some people claim that Jodhaa was wed to Jahangir, and not Akbar. There were controversies & blah blah blah. Ashutosh Gowarikar approached the film with the theory he thought was best suited for his idea. He does accept that it was his imagination to a great extent, so let's remove the idea of it being a historical lesson. It was an out-an-out love story.
Coming to the next part, Yes Akbar must have had thousands of wives. But his story with Jodhaa was highlighted because it has been the most talked about story. 90% of the people don't even know the names of his other wives. We can't expect people to swallow history books & then go a watch a film, can we ? From Mughal-E-Azam to Jodhaa-Akbar, Jodhaa has been the most known and talked about wife of Akbar. Hence, the film.
We should remember that Jodhaa-Akbar is not a documentry/realistic film. It is commercial cinema, and I think the director did a great job of bringing the 'classic' element into a commercial film. There are many unanswered questions, and will always be. Depends on what you wish to believe.

Thanks 😊 take your time.

I first thought of posting it here, but I want to experience the wrath of some disgruntled IF members so I posted it in the debate mansion, as Simi and Neeta suggested.

Joining the topic here now.

I enjoyed 'Fashion' only because this was one of the rare Bollywood movies that contained three-dimensional characters with substance. Unlike most 'characters' in Bollywood movies (which are just one-dimensional cardboard cut outs), there was absolutely nothing superficial about these characters, and their transformation and journey was so believable-- from a good natured girl that gets caught up with all the bright lights and glamour, then she loses her humanity quite consciously, looking at herself change from angel to demon, yet powerless in the grip of fame and money to find the moral courage to do anything about it. I think the director did a fabulous job of portraying the fashion industry and its ruthlessness and fickleness that comes with changing its representative face with the seasons. Very well said. Agreed 😊

.............As for Jodhaa Akbar, while it was visually appealing, it was Ashutosh Gowarikar's lame attempt to make an Oscar bait film. IMO, it fails to capture the heart of the audience as the intensity of the movie is diluted by it's long running time. The biggest problem was that the movie didn't know what it wanted to be. Was it a history lesson (despite being historically inaccurate)? Was it a love story?....... I'm willing to forgive as long as the movie doesn't claim to be a history lesson. I liked the soundtrack, and very few could've done a better job than Hrithik as Akbar. I will not put the movie in my bad books 😊

Hi everyone,

I see that we r discussing the worst movies of 2008 and also our favorites.

U don't like SRK ??? 😲 Ok That's a shocker 😲
Anyway I loved the film, maybe a tiny bit more than Ghajini. Both were commercial cinema to it's best, and when it comes to commercial cinema, I think only the far-fetched concepts work. You don't apply sense or logic, just sit back & enjoy the film. RNBDJ is not an oscar winning movie, but it doesn't claim to be either. It is meant purely for entertainment.
Why I liked it more than Ghajini is because it was a scene-to-scene copy of the tamil/telegu film of the same name. There was no originality there, Asin was the lead actress in both films so it would not have been hard for her to pick up. The 'copy' killed it for me.

I agree with u Neeta. These r my exact thoughts on both RNBDJ and Ghajini. I thoroughly enjoyed RNBDJ cuz it wasn't mean to be too serious or too complicated. It was a simple love story. I was shocked that Asin got an award for Hiindi Ghajini ...............i mean come on, she did the exact same role, scene by scene, only difference was she was translatiing her dialogues in Hindi. WOW that does require a lot of talent...........🤢

Other movies that I liked this year:
Fashion: it has to be the slickest indian movie I have seen. I dont like Dhoom 1,2, race, etc cuz they r too wanna be type movies. But Fashion was very real and at the same time very interesting. The entire story was flowing naturally and wasn't filmy at all. Great job done by the director and the actors, especially Kangana. After Rani, I think Kangana is the best ACTOR in bollywood.
JTYJN: very simply love story, again was very natural and complete entertainment.

I strongly dislike Jodha Akbar and that could be because I dislike both the leads. The story was butchered mercilessly and barely had any connection with the actual history. Visually it was a treat but set designers should get the credit for that and not the director.
