Alexander had conquered much of the world.His ambition of reaching the Ganges, and capturing the territory there was halted, due to the reluctance of the Greek soldiers to fight anymore, and as the Yavanas were longing for their homeland, Unan, ( Greece in Sanskrit ).
Against his own will, he had to return back to Greece.But he had to think of a strategy to retain the Indian lands that he had conquered, in the safe hands of Greek commanders.Alexander appointed Satraps ( Satrap = a king/ chieftain who ruled on the behalf of a bigger king ) for each of the state that he captured.
Before leaving Aryavrata, Alexander had called a meeting of all Satraps in Patanprastha, which was the last Indian kingdom; on the route to Greece.He wanted to make the Greek victory a permanent one.He ordered the Indian kings,to bring girls from their kingdoms, and marry them to the Greek soldiers; to create a hybrid generation, a fusion of Indian and Greek bloods.
The kings complying to the order of Alexander, brought 700 girls from their respective kingdoms.They were married to Greek soldiers in the same ceremony.These were the Greek soldiers, who were to remain in Aryavrata to defend the Yavana ( Greek in Sanskrit ) Satrap empire.Thus a new hybrid generation, of Indo-Greeks came into existence.
Alexander appointed Phillip, a great commander, the Satrap of Wakeek Mahajanapada.A valiant commander that he was, he was well-versed in the art of administration.Over the years, he had become addicted to good life and luxuries.Eating, womanizing, and making merry were his sole activities.He had nothing else to do.
Life is sometimes very strange.When the very purpose of a man's life is lost, he loses interest in life.He begins to indulge himself in nefarious activities, and thus self destroys his life.Life is not just a tool to enjoy and make merry.Life is a challenge,a challenge which we are assigned to fulfill.As it is said, Life is like an ice-cream, enjoy it before it melts.
Phillip made the royal palace of Kaikya, his home; which once belonged to Puru, who was now subordinate to the Yavana commanders.Over the years, Puru had become disenchanted with the Yavanas and their overbearing ways.Now he wished to get rid of them somehow and regain his throne.He waited for the correct opportunity, to capture back his beloved Kaikya...
