Chapter 2: The Clash

"I am sorry Prince. But I was just trying to save the innocent creature", Dharma gasped in terror.

"Who gave you the right to interrupt in my hunting?" Bindusara's grip on her arm tightened.

Dharma growled in pain. Quick anger rose in her.

"I don't need anyone's permission to save an innocent's life. I was born with this right." Dharma replied victoriously.

She felt the rising temper in his eyes but didn't let her fear display on her face.

"Shut your mouth. Don't forget you are speaking to the crown Prince of Magadh. It won't take me a minute to make you shut." Bindusara gritted in between his teeth.

"Showing your power to scare the innocents and unarmed doesn't make you a good Kshatriya Prince" her voice defensive this time.

Bindusara closed his eyes to control his anger.

"Dare you say another word, you lousy piece of dirt? Guards arrest this female." Bindusara pushed Dharma into the ground and turned his back to her. Vasudha came to her aid.

Bindusara clenched his fist struggling to control his aggression.

"Apologies Prince. Dharma is not from Magadh. She does not know the rules and regulations here. Please let her go. Kindly forgive her for her ignorance." Garima pleaded with folded hands scared by his aggressive semblance.

"Bhaiya today is a good day. Forgive her." Elis's attempt to pacify her brother.

"Dharma apologise to the Prince. Dharma?." Vasudha jerked her pointing to the Prince.

Dharma remained unmoved staring at his back.

The conversation was adjourned as Pratham came running

"Prince, Queen Helena has summoned you immediately"

Bindusara quickly held the reins of the horse and straddled on it. Before leaving he ordered "Log the details of these girls before letting them off"

Vasudha and Garima poked Dharma and signalled her to bow. The three girls bowed down.

Bindusara looked at Dharma in contempt and galloped towards the Palace.

"Cannot believe he is the son of such a noble person. His name should be changed from Bindusara to Monster ,"Dharma mocked looking at the retreating Bindusara.

The coronation ceremony began. The assembly hall is filled with delegates from the all the neighbouring kingdoms. Today the hall has been open to the civilians as well. Separate standing arrangements have been organised for the citizens to witness the ceremony. Dharma and her friends luckily secured a spot in the front row and are anxiously waiting for the Samrat to inaugurate the event. Loud beating of the drums and the royal accouchements marked the entry of the Emperor. The strong muscular body adorned with expensive jewels walked through the main entrance towards the throne. The crowd started cheering, "Long live the King". Dharma was awestricken by the vastness of what was happening. Her eyes wondered across the hall with admiration feeling the love and respect the people have for this great king. Chandragupta Maurya settled himself on the throne and raised his hands in the air to greet his subjects and then bowed his head to return the respect. "To my kingdom and its people, I pay my heartiest regards to have loved and supported me through my years of reign. Today I present you the future king of Magadh Prince Bindusara. I hope you all will shower him with the same warmth and blessings as you served me with". Addressed Chandragupta to the gathering.

As Bindusara walked in to the auditorium, a wave of loud cheer boomed through the crowd as if the hall was buzzing with applause "Long Live the Prince". His chivalrous presence and astonishing features can make any girl go weak on their knees. His penetrating intense looks complimenting his masculine frame are treat to the eyes and reflect royalty in very sense.

Dharma's smile faded away and an unpleasant frown appeared on her pretty face showcasing her hatred for him.

The Princess from different kingdom has put on their best attires to draw Bindusara's attention today. Whispers in the air came to Dharma's ear "Isn't he so attractive. I wish I could marry him," to which she sulked "These princess are only attracted to his exterior beauty. If they come to know about his uncouth nature, I doubt any of them would want to marry him."

Bindusara reached Chandragupta and bowed to take his blessings. Chanakya the royal priest performed the rituals of the ceremony. The event concluded with the grand feast.
