If someone really likes to read or loves the books, can be seen clearly from the early stage of their childhood, I think. We cant force them to read as the desire should rise from within. Yes this is bit difficult with boys specially since they are surrounded and bounded by high technology nowadays unlike our childhood. I read Nala and Damayanthi as my first literary novel at age of 12, though I cudnt understand many of phrases deeply at that age, followed by many great books like Pride and Prejudice, the entire series of Sherlock Holmes, Tom Sawyer,The Count of Monte Cristo, Robin Hood ..etc. Those days a library membership is a must for us. What to do..time has changed things a lot. Try to give your kids at least an e-version of books as Shilaja mentioned. Might impress them to sit with a Tab or a iPad.

Yes Exactly aunty, I remembered your prediction about it.

If Padmanand kidnaps that female, and has her nattering away at him for a couple of days, he will be driven round the bend, and will return her to Chanakya with his apologies. 😉And the Acharya, who must have been breathing a sigh of relief at having got rid of her at long last, will be stuck with her again!😉😉

Oh god 🤣

Amina, the rather confusingly located precap reassured me. I was afraid, after what sounded like a throwback to Jodha Begum in Nandini's Mujhe sparsh kyon kiya?, that she was also going to launch into ashobaniya aacharan speeches. It now seems that this is not going to be the case.

That linewas rich, by the way, seeing that she was dreaming of cuddling up to him as long ago as in that bullock cart, and now sleeps with him as a teddy bear every other day!

Nowadays, the minute I open my mouth to sing, my kid son starts shouting, "No song! No sound!" He isn't interested in books either. Even if he is, they interest him only regarding how many pages he can tear out of them or how many thousand pieces he can make out of the pages and scatter them all over the room. During childhood, whenever my father used to go for any conferences or seminars, the only thing I wanted back from the trip was a beautiful picture story book. My kid is a Terminator of any kind of books. Don't know what he is going to do after he grows up.

My son is the same...I guess they are surrounded by gadgets and TV all the time and hence can't appreciate books or music...I once cut-off all gadgets and TV for a whole week and my son went back to reading books and playing football.

My dear Ria,

I am always glad when I hear from you, and it does not matter if the response is long or short. I appreciate the fact that even though you are so busy these days, you still make time for this, and that too by typing it out on a phone. I never can do that! I am very glad that you enjoyed this post so much; you are a thoughtful and perceptive young lady, and so when you are pleased, I am pleased!

Yes, the Chandra-Nandini relationship is what is keeping the show afloat these days,, and I must say the buoyancy is remarkable. And it is infectious, and extends to us, the viewers as well!

A good part of this is due to the characterisation of Nandini. Even last night, the rather confusingly located precap reassured me after an initial alarm! I was afraid, after what sounded like a throwback to Jodha Begum in Nandini's Mujhe sparsh kyon kiya?, that she was also going to launch into ashobaniya aacharan speeches.😉 It now seems that this is not going to be the case, thank God!

Aunty your analysis was wonderful and class apart as always...👏👏... Our odd couple is giving such heart melting camaraderie moment now days...😳😳 ... after takhshila track... this village will be another memorable time with them...

I remembered a statement Chandra made long ago... "Agar main chandra naa hota.. aur tum nandini naa hoti,. to humara prarabdh kuch aur hi hota..."

The moment in village somehow proved that statement where they saw each other as a normal human being, the real human within them... coming out of the shell of chandragupta maurya the king and Nand's daughter now magadh's queen consort.. and we can see the admiration clearly for each other...their childish playful moments... teasing each other... (Bandar has suddenly become my fav words thanks to them..😆😆)

Bas aunty... I have mothing more to say.. U have already told everything in your post and the deep analysis gave the inner meaning of every situation which even I couldn't think thoroughly...😳😳

For now I am putting this small reply as I am having a bit problem with my PC... using my android right now and it's hard to type from there...

I have been quietly reading this interesting exchanges between you, aunty and Amina on the topic above. But @bold - i had to write and say ...why you poor darling! I say this because, as a person who loves books I know how painful it is to see any books being torn, and that too by our own.

But hang in there. In time perhaps your little one will discover the magic of books and the bliss of holding a book and diving into the magically world that it holds.

I never had the good fortune of owning a leather bound book. But have been blessed to own books, and many of them too. I do agree with you on this Aunty...there is nothing like holding a book, and inhaling the scent of those pages. Its such a simple pleasure that leaves and immense effect on ones soul.

True, but you know, Shailaja, there is nothing like holding a nice leather bound volume in your hands, with gold lettering on the spine, and a silk marker! There is the scent of the leather and the solid paper to add to the appeal of the contents!

I have a fair collection of such beautifully bound English, French and German classics that I bought on my first posting abroad, in Geneva, over 40 years ago. They were affordable then, even on a junior diplomat's salary. Then I inherited my nana's collection as well. It is a treat just to look at them.

Incidentally, in Lamb's essays, do you remember the one in which his sister and he save up to buy the folio edition in the bookseller's window that they covet for weeks before they can get the funds together? How they must have treasured it and rejoiced in it afterwards!
