The works I mentioned here are pure history books backed by facts. But they are as interesting or even more than actual fantasy books. It is really something to learn and gain an insight about those times and those people.

True, but you know, Shailaja, there is nothing like holding a nice leather bound volume in your hands, with gold lettering on the spine, and a silk marker! There is the scent of the leather and the solid paper to add to the appeal of the contents!

I have a fair collection of such beautifully bound English, French and German classics that I bought on my first posting abroad, in Geneva, over 40 years ago. They were affordable then, even on a junior diplomat's salary. Then I inherited my nana's collection as well. It is a treat just to look at them.

Incidentally, in Lamb's essays, do you remember the one in which his sister and he save up to buy the folio edition in the bookseller's window that they covet for weeks before they can get the funds together? How they must have treasured it and rejoiced in it afterwards!

My father was an erudite scholar and professor of English literature.( I am myself a literature student) His colleagues even nicknamed him the "walking dictionary and talking encyclopedia". Any doubts they had, they would instantly run to him for clarification. He had such a huge personal library himself. I grew up surrounded by books and books throughout my childhood. There was never a world for me beyond my books. Even after my marriage, in India I brought and acquired a whole lot of books for my personal library collection. I gave all of them away to my friends and fellow research scholars when I moved to US. Nowadays I subsist on online e-books. The magic of a hard bound is missing, but all the same I at least get to read my favorites wherever I am. I do remember that essay of Charles Lamb. However, my personal all-time favorite essay of Lamb would be his Dream Children. Such a beautiful and poignant piece on unrequited love and longing.

It's the same with me. I do what I like and love. During my childhood my entire world must have revolved round books and Carnatic classical music. I used to sing a lot and even accompanied my mother who is a Carnatic vocalist for many of her concerts as a second singer. Nowadays, the minute I open my mouth to sing, my kid son starts shouting, "No song! No sound!" He isn't interested in books either. Even if he is, they interest him only regarding how many pages he can tear out of them or how many thousand pieces he can make out of the pages and scatter them all over the room. During childhood, whenever my father used to go for any conferences or seminars, the only thing I wanted back from the trip was a beautiful picture story book. My kid is a Terminator of any kind of books. Don't know what he is going to do after he grows up.

Most illogical part is nand trying to attack maghadh just with three members in his hand and he is screaming in two names chandra or chanakya each time he failed in his attempt. Finally he came up with the popular tragedy to get the advantage of chanakya's durbalta. His week point must be his wife and daughter. This will not bring him to slay down chanakya or he will conquer maghadh but will add another entry to the queue of those who falls for Chandra, as a result of some rescue missions.

See, my dear Sarika, did I not predict that the first time that girl and her shrewish mother made their appearance?

If Padmanand kidnaps that female, and has her nattering away at him for a couple of days, he will be driven round the bend, and will return her to Chanakya with his apologies. 😉And the Acharya, who must have been breathing a sigh of relief at having got rid of her at long last, will be stuck with her again!😉😉

Amina, the rather confusingly located precap reassured me. I was afraid, after what sounded like a throwback to Jodha Begum in Nandini's Mujhe sparsh kyon kiya?, that she was also going to launch into ashobaniya aacharan speeches. It now seems that this is not going to be the case.

That linewas rich, by the way, seeing that she was dreaming of cuddling up to him as long ago as in that bullock cart, and now sleeps with him as a teddy bear every other day!
