Chapter 17
Nandini " Chandra, I make good food only... You are not having piece of heart to appreciate me.. Not fair."
Chandra "Yes ,nobody can beat your preparation. After marrying you I started speaking lies"
Nandini looked at him and made faces.
"Nandini, Do your relatives live in Kishkinta.. The celebrated Kingdom of Shugriva"
"Hey,come again what did you say"Nandini folded her hands in her waist. Chandra" What I am speaking the truth"
"Chandra I am surprised that you quote Ramayana."Nandini waited for his reply attentively.
"Yes Nandini,I am a non believer of God,but still it does not prevent me from not believing Ramayana. Ram in all sense was a good son,disciple,husband and more than that he was a great King. Acharaya used to say that no one could provide Ramrajya after Rama,it should be aim of King to provide Ramrajya like samriddhi to people.To sum up,what I feel,if a person who is ruling hearts of millions of people for these 5000 years is no less than a God.
Nandini was dumbstruck with his reply.She never knew that her Husband was profficient in even in Ramayana.
"Chandra ,do you know the story of Raja Janak and Ram. "
Nandini i suppose or assume that you know story of Raja Daksh.It is more applicable here. Dont come in between us,else you will become another Devi Sati. Its me or Padmanand.This is undismissable truth which you should realize. Sooner the better.

Just then a Dasi Came, "Maharaj, Raja of Prathisthan has sent you message."
Chandra acknowledged and said to Nandini" You go to your room,I will join you in dinner:"
Nandini "Iam going to go to temple".
cHANDRA "YES, GO AND COME SAFELY".

Nandini broke down before her Lord Krishna.Her sobbing was very much audible. Pujari of the temple whom she respected as her Guruji observed this. He left with no choice rather than asking her the problem.Nandini told the dispute between her husband and father.
"Swamiji,I am sandwitched between my husband and father. I am afraid that I am going to be another Devi Sati. I want them to forget their enmity."
PUjari received her words" Putri,we all are normal souls dancing to his tune"pointing hands to Deity."Don't compare yourself with Devi Sati. I think this situation warrants you to face. If Krishna is merciful,may be your problem can be solved. "
"How" Nandini in quick response and folded her hands before Krishna
"Putri,I have seen many families who sort out their problems after the advent of Child."
"Swamiji,shall I fake myself as a preganant lady"Nandini spoke like a immature girl.Pujari "Putri,lies cannot lay foundation to any relationship. What happens if your husband and Father found your act. Pray him,He is only path and Destination for all of us.Who knows he has a better plan for your"Nandini bent her head in Krishna's feet. To her surprise a small flower fell on her hands indicating something good is bound to happen.Nandini left with a relaxed mind and upon reaching her room she was surprised to see Moora
"Ma .How come you are here You could have called me.."
"Nandini,come here and sit with me beta. I heard you took care of Chandra during our absence. I am glad that your difference is now almost nil. I am feeling happy for my son to have a wife like you,who could revive his lost childhood in him. I have not seen him happy like this before.
Nandini smiled and there was a silence.
Moora with hesitatingly " Nandini, Is everything is alright with you.I mean are you getting monthly... what I am trying to ask is are you feeling alright... "
Nandini "Ma, I got a stomach indigestion today"
"Stomach indigestion? did you feel like vomiting??"
"yes Ma, Chandra said It must be stomach infection.

Moora ,quiet lost in deep thought " Can I ask vaidya to see you Beta"?
NAndini"Ma, I am alright.. no need of medicines."
Moora"Nandini,dont take any herbs without vaidya's knowledge"
Nandini " Why ma,"
Moora could not find a suitable reply "Beta, Now you are married . When I was in your age I gave birth to Chaya and was carrying Chandra. I hope you understand my point"
Nandini "yes.. no..yes Ma.. I dont get ma"
Moora"beta, there is nothing to confuse. just be sure not to take any medicines or herbs without my knowledge .. "
Nandini" Ma, I wont take any medicines. Can I go to Durdahra's room ma"?
Moora" Yes beta,be careful"
When nandini ran like a deer,Moora called dasis and gave instruction which she gave to Nandini.
Moora" Still, I am not sure... I have to wait. Shall I speak to Avantika... If she is not pregnant... Then ..Alright let me speak to Avantika.

IN night

Nandini was combing her hair and she was getting ready for her Chandra . He promised her that he will come to Dinner.
Her mind was still wandering like an butterfly.She recollected her conversation with the temple pujari, whom she revered like her Guru.
Chandra atlast arrived as he promised. Nandini served him all delicacies she made with her own hands. Chandra did not complain about the taste he knew,she did for him alone.Dinner was over within half an hour and for another hour they both played chess.
Nandini lost to him in first few moves itself. seeing her disappointment Chandra voluntarily got defeated at her hands. Nandini was very jubilant that she could win him. He was happy seeing her happy.just at time moonlight fell on the room,which was looking as though it was filling the room with Dev lok's aroma and comforts. Small breeze touched Nandini's face ,it made her curls fall on her eyes and cover her vision. Chandra did carefully brushed away her hair and tucked it behind her ears.Nandini was filled in trance by his touch. She could not believe how much she felt for him. Chandra snapped his finger to bring her to reality . Nandini smiled unable to hide her feelings before him. Chandra kissed her on her cheeks and took her hand " I Love you,I know I haven't been proving this lately,but that is the most honest word I spoke to you.He pressed kiss again. Nadnini did kiss him back."I am happy,that you are back. Whatever Problem I am imagining there between us I wish It was not there."

Nice update! What exactly is Nandini doing or planning to do?Is she going to fake a pregnancy or is she truly pregnant or is she going to lose her baby by being careless during her pregnancy and a long separation of Chandini comes up? I wish she were a bit sensible in whatever she does!

Chapter 18

Chandra gave a mute look as a retaliation to Nandini's words. Both knew that there is no answer ever possible .Their life is a unique adventure that has only hues of blood written on them. It is not a simple fairy tale which we can end with an Happy note . Even if Chandra ever wished to forgive Padmanand for Her sake,there is no guarantee that he may reciprocate the same. Some one has to be destined by slayed by other. They cannot coexist. Its is This Nandini who is going to loose this battle. Whatever may be the case,she has to loose either one of her love. Whatever may be the scenario on which she was married to Chandra, she has completely surrendered her to him at this time of her life.When they both made love for the very first time,they were not sure whether it was love or passion.But today they started accepting that they are in love with each other.Why wouldn't Nandini wont love him?
Because did she found himself irresistible.The answer is big No. Lust and passion cannot join the hearts. Afterall the subjects of Magadh whom she loves more than her father has accepted him as their Savior. Nandini herself saw him delivering Kingly duties with more dedication and care to his people. People started to revere him as Lord Vishnu who took human form to save them from iron shackles of Padmanand, They started naming their boys as Chandrasekhar(birth name of Chandragupt,which Moora kept as a token of love towards Lord of Shiv of Pataligram temple. Chanakya changed the name to Chandragupt).Nandini needed no cupid arrows to fall in love.Dasi's are daily extolling her fortune to be his wife. They are gossiping behind her back that "what a wonder ,despite being his enemy's daughter,Maharaj loves her more than any of his wives.Dont know what vrat she kept in her past lives..They made even dreamy statements how they two look perfect together.A perfect prologue to fall in love !
Chandra too started to love her after witnessing her immense love she keeps for him and more than that her kindness woes him more than her beauty.These traits of Nandini superseded his original perception about her.He silently worships her as his most priceless possession which he never dreamt of having.

Coming to the place where they were left.
Chandra lay back on the silken bed spread.in her chamber.Along the southern side of the wall there was a golden basin filled with rose water and beneath it was a lamp that was lit with a sandle wood oil.Sounds of veena wafted in from a distant chamber where one of the courtesan played with its chords. The raga was SAHANA. The raga of compassion,pleading,fervent appeasement ,helpless surrender.The sound oscillated in the R,The long pause of G,and majestic glides from S to P AND then R were perfect stamps of the Raga.
This time Nandini took the lead. She kissed him,it was a lingering one. She softly touched his lips over hers,causing sparks that traveled down his spine.Chandra craved for the impassioned ritual to move towards gratifying conclusion . He allowed himself to submit to Nandini's ministering. Chandra remembered his mentor's words. The path of salvation is complete surrender to the divine, Was this girl is anything less than divine? Though he was septic about the existence of God.His amour pomp-re must have been tested by the God.He almost accepted that God alone could have created Nandini. God has mixed beauty,intelligence, bravery, and goodness in right proportions.Chandra and Nandini were in trance which created a fire that would engulf all the cosmic creations of the God. Let them enjoy the present time.Nobody knows what will be there in store for them in future,because the very next day is the fated Vasanth Utsav. It can either turn their relationship down or it can be a testimony to the fact that nothing can ever tear two soulfully connected souls.

So far Chandra has been basking in the knowledge that he is the best lover and best kisser (ofcourse prodded more by Helena 😉), but today Nandini proved him that she is no less !!!👏

From Nandini's angle, its clear that she is love with him. From Chandra's angle, i am still not sure whether he is still looking at her as Mitra or not. But atleast, hmm.. hmm... he thinks she is divine 😉

Chapter 19
Vasanth Utsav

Goddess Saraswati is the goddess of learning, wisdom, knowledge, fine arts, refinement, science and technology. Vasant utsav is treated by celebrants as Saraswati's birthday. People worship Goddess Saraswati to attain enlightenment through knowledge and to rid themselves of lethargy, sluggishness and ignorance. Vasant utsav is treated by celebrants as Saraswati's birthday.
The city of Pataliputra has a long tradition of celebrating this festival with utter grandeur and pomp ,the festivities there are an elaborate affair.It was a sunny morning in Pataliputra with a blue sky as a backdrop, and the residents had already started to assemble in both sides of the rajmargh which eventually leads to Chandrasekhara Swamy temple.Its there where the worship of Saraswathi is going to take place. On the day before celebration the dancing girls would collect flowers and mango leaves from the garden of the Chandrasekhara swamy temple. The flowers and mangoes were arranged in brass vessels along the temple stairs.This marks the commencement of the festival. The priests will change temple flag on the sthamba.Next day the procession will take place. The main attraction of this procession is the idol of the Goddess Saraswathi which is placed on a golden mantapa on the top of a decorated royal elephant. This idol is worshipped by the royal couples and other memebers before it is taken around in the procession. Chandragupt and his family members along with Chanakya ,other invitees initiated the procession. the rules are very strict in this pooja. King along with his family and others who are going to witness the pooja hasto be dressed in royal wear. They should not eat or drink any thing including water. King and his queens should not wear footwear. King should carry Goddess's Paduka in his head and queens should fan Chamera. Defense minister should bring King's sword and Rajguru should take holy books and other books related to studies with him.The priest will first keep vermilion on all the participants and blow royal conch called Panchajanya. The announcer was first to go , followed by the Colourful tableaux, dance groups, music bands, decorated elephants, horses and camels form a part of the procession which starts from the royal Palace and culminates at Shiv temple at the end of the city.The royal family members and others heading towards the temple will be last to join troop leading the Devi (Goddess Saraswathi) . Infantry soldiers will guard the Goddess from back.They have to cross mighty Ganga to reach the temple.Temporary Bridge will be setup and on reaching the river ,Janpadakalyani will CARRY THE Goddess 's idol and cross the river.People were shouting Jai Jai kars. After couple of hours they reached the temple.They welcomed by priests and dasi's of the temple took the items the king and his family brought.Chandragupta and Durdhara entered followed by others.Nandini was last to enter the temple. She somehow was missed the King .While Nandini was gazing outside,as she entered the temple.Something weird caught in her eyes. Since Durdhara is Janapadakalyani,she was going to help Chandra in the rituals. Nandini silently slipped off the scene which nobody including Chanakya noticed. They were engrossed in the ritual. This ritual cannot be witnessed by common people. They were stranded out on the other side of Ganga. It was supposed to be conducted in ekant for well being of Rajya.
The priest started the mantra jap.Chandragupt was seated before Goddess .Durdhara was holding his right hand. SHE is yajamani and he is yajaman of the pooja. Coutesan of temple playing veena. RAGAS OF ANANDABHAIRAVI,Followed by Sankarabarana was being played.
Everything was going as per plan,but to their defiance they witnessed a group of soldiers Lead by Bhadrasal(Nand defence minister) entering the arena and in no time he took Durdhara as captive. He kept knife at her neck and "Chandra,instruct all your men to drop their weapons else this beautiful wife of yours will be sent to abode of Yama".Chandra at that time realised that Nandini was no where to be seen
"Treacherous Girl... The vicious blood of her father is still running in her veins". He and others dropped their weapons.Bhadrasal with vile grin and with all cunningness ordered his soldiers to take the weapons of the Chandragupt and host of others. Few Handful soldiers of Chandragupt were also kept at bay. Chanakya ordered his trusted person"Vikraketu.. attack him".
Vikraketu instead of attacking Bhadrasal, came to Chanakya " Acharya.. I am sorry... I am Nand's man."Chanakya could not believe his ears. Vikraketu said" How on the earth,Person of your caliber did not identify me .. I was playing a game.. Initially I was doubting my acting skills,but after seeing your carelessness I was motivated. Bhadrasal whom to attack first. Its your choice, first Guru or shishya..Bhadrasal busted into pearl of laughter."Vikraketu,first to be go is this young man .. Who made our master to sleep in floors.After that we can kill vile Brahmin. Durdhara,and Helena shall be taken as token of victory to our Maharaj.
Chandra stamped his foot and he was helpless."Dont waste the time.. Kill them.. Prince must be waiting outside"
When Bhadrasal was about to attack Chandragupt leaving Durdhara aside, he heard a loud anklet sounds and authoritative voice.
"Bhadrasal, you may kill him,but Face the consequences of killing Mahraj as I will kill this estranged prince of Magadh Dhananand as your reward.
All were shocked it was none other than Nandini. she was pointing her sword at her own brothers neck . Nandini was like an oasis out in a dessert. Chandra felt thankful to Nandini and was ashamed for suspecting her."Deal or no deal, Bhadrasal. Iam not mincing my words. you know, what I am capable of doing.. Isn't it. You know that Iam Padmanand's daughter so his blood can do anything . Dare not touch Him. If even a scratch comes in his hand because of you,I will tear this Dhananand.I dont like wasting time. Say yes or No.I am charitable that's why giving you choices. Time is running out.

Chandra"Nandini,look back" A soldier of opposite camp, swirled upon her a sword. the metallic blade was about land in her left arm .To their surprise she caught the blade with her hands instinctively, blood started flowing from it.But Nandini was standing calm in that posture,it seems she is not feeling any pain at all.With same hand she killed the soldier and threw the weapon towards chandra. Chandra catches it in no time. Soon a fiery struggle took place ,but with help of helena and others perpetrators were under control. Nandini too helped them in that combat.She wisely took the secret passage to reach the mandap to help Chandra during siege .Nandini cleverly released soldiers of cHANDRA. This move pushed the opponents to verge of loosing the attack.They were chained in shackles.Chandra LATER FINISHED the pooja .Mangala harti was done and Swasti mantras were uttered to ward off bad omens . They thought attack as a bad omen. EVERYONE were reached back to palace safely and Chandra gupt Arranged a darbar in same evening.

All the captives were informed the details of the crime.When Chandra was about to deliver the punishment,"Maharaj, wait.. Please kill the Prince .. He deserves Death punishment. Nandini with all hate in her eyes went to Prince and blasted " What a brother you are... Trying to make one sister widow for just to capture the throne. What pleasure can it give ,when you are about to die. how many kosh of land will you take when you are going to die..
I hate you and your father.What I spoke just is not exact the reason to hate you all. because Whenever I see you both ,i see you as my sister's assailants.All these days, you tried to hide my sister's existence . You all tried to show false affection to me just because I bring you fortunes. You could have said at my face the truth, why this all these charade of love is needed ... And my mother too joined the wagon of vampires..pitting with each other and drinking your own children's blood to appease hunger of power.. Dhan baiya... How come you dont feel bad about Hasini.. how could you kill her by poisonous snake..today,even if maharaj ready to forgive you, I shall not spare you... ...

Everyone was shocked . It was a well known and accepted fact that she was a single daughter of Padmanand. They raised their eyebrows on her accusations.Chandra"Nandini,what is these all about".

"Maharaj,Hasini is your Mitra,adopted daughter of Acharaya.please allow me to call Brihati. she is my dai ma. She will appraise you the truth.. yes its bitter."Nandini wiped tears from her eyes.Chandra and Chanakya stood from their respective seats. Sujatha ma was also summoned along with Mura,Chaya others.
An old lady accompanied by Avantika came before the king and bowed their head.Brihati was looking quiet old than Avantika.She must be around 50 years. She wore a simple saree and had long grey hair. Her eyes were wrinkled but spoke more affection towards Nandini.Brihati addresed the court
"Myself Brihati in the name of Lord Chandrasekhar of Pataliputa shall speak only truth. I used to ministered all the deliveries of previous queen Avantika.When she was pregnant for 9th time I was quiet certain that she was carrying twins in her womb. I was correct in my judgement. First she gave birth to a baby girl and next to take birth was princess Nandini. First twin was known as Hasini and second one was Nandini. Both the children were raised by me only. One day Padmanand and Dhananand on the pretext of going to Kasi, took Hasini alone with them. She was wearing a golden locket and pink lehenga dress at that time. She was 3 years old. when upon asked about why only Hasini, they did not reply me convincing answer.But when they came they were alone. They replied to us saying that Hasini was drowned in Ganga.
Avantika took the point.
"OUR daughters were apple of our eyes. Every thing was clear until my husband consulted astrologer who said husband of Hasini is going to kill him and deprive him of the throne.He did not believe his words but seeds of suspicion was apparently took his mind's control. I tried to allay his baseless fears,but he wanted to get rid of Hasini. So he devised a plan to root her off.Since Nandini horoscope was favorable, and wherever she remains the males of that family will rise upon horizons of all scales. If she gets married, and by that time Padmanand will loose throne.He decided to keep Nandini unmarried at any cost. He was not inclined to give her to Malyaketu also. padmanand plotted to kill Malay.. to his dismay,he cleverly found the truth and broke the alliance.

Brihati completed the story" Due to old age I was discharged of my duties and took shelter in Pataligram . There I saw Mitra, in chanakya's house. By looking at her I found that she was my Hasini . Upon verifying the facts with Sujata I was convinced since She still wore the same locket made by Avantika for their first birthday. Idiot I was, I said the truth TO queen that Mitra was indeed Hasini and she was about to get married. Dhananand overheard our talks which was supposed to be a secret. He pleaded before gullible Queen that he will go and do kanya dan. which this undoubting queen accepted.I only led him to Mitra who was at temple all alone ..On contrary he went and killed her right before my eyes. He bribed a snake charmer and bought rarest of rare karkotak nag to kill innocent Hasini. After being bitten ,Hasini fled away to her house but collapsed on reaching home.When I tried to question him ,he kept me as a captive in Cave far from pataliputra guarded by Tribals.Just Day before yesterday I managed to fool them and reached here. I was waiting for your highness's audience at temple premises,but Nandini recognized me and extracted all truth. When we were discussing this,assailants captured the temple. Nandini then asked me to reach the palace and she herself helped you all of the plight.
Sujatha too confirmed the statement and Chandra himself have seen this Brihati. Durdhara has witnessed that she indeed saw Sujatha showing Locket to Brihati.

Unquestionably,Dhananand was executed for plotting against king and for murder of a girl. He seems to have killed a small boy for pleasing Goddess Nikumbala . His head was severed on that night and Bhadrasal was kept as captive in a secret location. Meanwhile Vile Vikraketu escaped and proceeded to Nand's den . Brihati was pardoned and was reinstated as Nandini personal nurse.

This whole incident turned to be Topsy turvy for Chandra and Nandini. They did not hate or had any misunderstanding. In fact he himself tendered her wounds,but unusual distance have crept between them . As days passed ,Chandra spent time with Durdhara and Helena and he slowly stopped talking with Nandini . Nandini also stopped seeing him .Both were feeling as though standing in fire of guilt. Chandra thought that he developed love for (Mitra(Hasini's)) sister is something which is condemnable. Nandini went into deep depression of stealing life of her sister,and Chandra happened to be her lover. She hated to see herself . Avantika ,Moora ,Durdhara even Chaya forgetting her ego tried to allay their guilt but it was in vain. Even Chanakya and Sujatha tried their level best to counsel them. It did not work. After due deliberation, Chandra decided to call their marriage off and it was accepted By Nandini too. He was going to announce the divorce in open court on Next day.
He was about to go to court,
"Damad ji... Please come with me.. Nandini is found in unconscious state. Chandra "Ma, how and why".
"Dont know,Damad ji.. she was depressed all these days and she was angry with me. She did not even speak a word with me after Vasanth utsav .. Please save her for God sake.
Chandra and Avantika went to her room. The room was locked and Helena Chanakya ,Chaya Moora ,Sujatha and Durdhara even Brihati were present outside . Nobody knew what is the reason.Vaidya and dasis enterd the nandini's room. Vaidya asked Brihati inside.After 30 minutes,Vaidya asked rest of them to come inside. Nandini was sleeping in her bed.
"Maharaj.. Rani Nandini is preganant . Soon you are going to become a father to small baby.Both Mother and her developing baby is doing good. The dizziness is due to Morning sickness. Her delivery may happen anytime after Kartik month.
All were very happy and looked on Chandra. He was very happy with the news. Sujatha" Chandra, Krishna want you and Nandini to be together thats why sent you a bundle of joy... For that sake forget the past and live the present moment.Everyone agreed her words of wisdom and left leaving Couple alone. Chandra planted a soft kiss on Nandini's forehead. She opened her eyes with that contact and "Chandra.. You at this time"
"Nandini,a small tender flower is there in your belly. " He touched her belly with utmost affection "Little one,thank you for making me a father..I was waiting to become one ,dont know for how long... YOu made me a father..No more questions for the sake of you,we will be together.. "Nandini also talked to her baby " Look,who is saying.. this is your father Chandragupt and I am your mother Nandini. You have a lots of people here to love you.. But wait till Kartik month after that I will not stop you from playing with them. Come and trouble your father . I will support you.. My dear son.
Chandra" No I dont want a son.. I want a girl"
"Nothing doing son"
"Nandini.. why do you always fight with me.. OK First let me have a daughter and next time You can have a son" He winked his eyes which was full of mischief. "What.. on any account you always take care to win..very scheming king "

"She saw tears in his eyes. It was not due to sadness.!!! Lord was atlast kind on Chandragupta.

This was your most important chapter till date. You tied up all the loose ends. I liked the way you dealt with the chapter. Good work Avantika. Chandini as parents will be a treat to watch.

This chapter ,after lots of ifs and buts, i gave a form...

Totally To write war like sequence, It tested my writing skills... I have to bring in some plotshere and Nand cgm faceoff cannot happen soon...Hope you all liking the Nandini 's war skills...
