Chapter 14

Nandini came back from temple past noon. "I feel too tired... I want to take a nap... "Nandini hurried herself to her room . She took her lunch and was about to lay herself in bed "Nandini .."Chandra was standing at the door entrance and was walking towards her.Nandini stood up from her seat and saluted him with folded hands. Chandra acknowledged her salutations and looking at dasis"Ekant".
Nandini closed the door and came to him ."So maharaj is so restless in noon itself"Nandini touched his back.

Chandra shooed her hand"Nandini,I want to talk to you.. I want to appraise you the truth.. I cannot go on hiding the truth for eternity...Nandini threw him a curious look as he was speaking.
"Nandini, The truth is that, ... I mean to say... That you are well aware of the fact that On what circumstances our marriage took place.. In fact, you are made Mukya rani..to lure or to achieve some hidden...
Nandini "Come to the point"Chandra swallowed a big lump and looked into her eyes and said

"Nandini, I am using you both physically and emotionally.. I am in sort of blackmailing you... You must know that I suspected you ... We came to know that you sent some messages to Nand.. so to test your stake in plot my acharya tested you.. Though You passed the test,I cannot go on abusing you... Once Nand is annihilated ,our marriage has no purpose.. I cannot fake something which I am not feeling ...I dont want to earn a poor name in front of my subjects.that I manipulated you.. I am releasing you from this marriage.You are free to go anywhere ...
Chandra was stopped by Nandini's low husky voice. She was crying as she was trying to retort

"I knew Chandra... Because the speed at which our proximity was growing, I sensed long back that its going to fall. I will not mistake you... Even If I am in your place.. I could have done the same.If you had said that to test your love towards me ,I could have felt ecstatic.. But You were testing me whether I was a spy or not... Isnt't... Its ok... Chandra,dont feel..bad.. I will leave you forever ..But one point of advise I feel like saying to you

"Nand ,My father looks an old man only in appearance but not in his actions.. He always thinks ahead of best of available intelligence agents you are having at your disposal..Don't judge him by his daughter. He is not vulnerable to emotions like Nandini.. After seeing me taking your side in Ksheer pooja,he could have disowned me..He may not accept me.. So you need not worry about me joining Nand.. Krishna created big world,yet he created persons with small hearts...You may not consider me as your wife,but till my last breath you are indeed my husband. I wish you understand this soon.

Chandra did not reply .Nandini went inside her pooja chamber and took Krishna's idol with her and was about to leave.Chandra was looking her walking away

"Ahhh"... Chandra gave a loud shrill ,When she turned back she found an arrow pierced his chest and he was fallen down.

"krishna,What It has happen. " Nandini shouted for help.Soon Acharya and Helena came and Rajvaidya was summoned.Till that time,Nandini had tied a tight bandage on his wound after removing the arrow and due to that poison did not spread to his vitals. he was out of critical situation soon.
Still,Chandra was lying unconscious. Nobody has any idea how and who attacked him with an poisonous arrow.Though it was not that much poisonous as Nandini feared,it was a light dossier of mahavish.

Chandra was attended by all his family members and It was Nandini who took extra care of him. Durdhara ,Moora and Chaya was not in the palace,they went to attend his ailing grandmother in Piplivan and Helena was assisting Chanakya in nailing down the culprit, who had that much impertinence to attack Magadh Raj
Nandini was taking care of him.Soon he regained his consciousness. sHe was treating him as her own child. Nandini applied ointment in his wound. She cleaned his face and body ,gave him a quick sponge bath . Assisted him in eating by feeding him with her hands. Chandra even threw up twice on the bed, She did not made any complaint about it. Cleaned it ,with a piece of cloth. Helped him in all possible ways. Chandra could not hold his tears looking at the service she was rendering to him
"Nandini, I don't deserve you"
Nandini was combing his hair and "Chandra, I am doing my duty..Durdhara or Helena could have done same had they been available here... Nothing special..
"I am sorry ,Nandini,please don't go away from me"
Nandini "How can I live without you...No more questions and answers.. Take this soup or I will slap you"?
Both smiled ...Chandra "I am your Husband"
Nandini c"That's why, I am speaking ,else my hands would have landed on this chubby cheeks long ago.. Idiot..."

I enjoyed Chapter 14 a lot. Nandini came across as a Lok-Priya Princess.

Also, she handled Chandra abrupt confession with a bit more maturity and poise.

And she nursed a sick Chandra back to health, in the absence of people, who are all elder to her.

And she managed to scold the otherwise cunning and sharp King Chandra.

Well done, Avantika.

Chandra this is last spoon. be a nice boy.. common open your mouth. Chandra opened his mouth little"It tastes very bad.. Who made it.. Nandini did you made this... "?
Nandini made her lips half pouted in anger " Yes , I made it.."Nandini made him faces
"Ok.. maharani.. Dont punish me further.. I accept my fault to play a joke on you"
"Was that a joke...I thought your cunning Acharya tried to test his pupil's wife on chastity and duties of wife. I heard it that he never ever trusts a women.. Its no doubt that Sujatha ma is having big mental turmoil because of constant nagging Husband.. By the way,If he became your Father In law.. I swear that you have to take his permission every time you want to see Mitra..
Chandra "You understood him... Now he has to be careful.. Well well.. I went to inspect Citizens in incognito yesterday night. I was delighted actually hearing citizens praising you Nandini.. They even blamed me for marrying for just political advantages.. That gave me an idea to pull a joke on you.. I know you won't go anywhere...Because you are created by Your Krishna to inflict trouble upon me..
"My Krishna.." Nandini smiled at him
"You know I am an atheist"
"Very well... At least you have known some good things of me..Krishna has shown some mercy on me...
"Its me who love you.."Chandra held her hands
"I wonder ,how many times you could have said this to Helena and Durdhara.. Of course Mitra.. "
"You don't believe my words" Chandra was visibly hurt by her words..
" Chandra, Somethings are better not said.. "Nandini held his hands tighter.
They both kept silent. Silence spoke more intense affection then their words could have done..
Dasi entered "Maharaj, Magad vasis are there waiting for your speech,that you were supposed to deliver today.Chandra got up from bed and tried to dress himself
Nandini helped him in wearing angavastra and his royal jewelries. In no time he came to balcony along with Nandini. Helena Chanakya and his ministers stood by his side.
Chandra addresed the crowd.

"Magadh ki praja.. Apki prathana se mein aj swasth hoon. Muje koi sharireek peeda nahi hai. I know that you always stand by me when I am in need.
I am going to announce important decisions today after analyzing the need of the hour.Myself ChandraGupt Maurya announces that
From today Magadh is liquor free state. Buying and selling Liquor is an offense.Punishment may vary from fine to death sentence.

Magadh is also free from caste system There will be no preferential treatment for any citizens in temples, Govt offices ,wells,lake,Dharmashala and wherever there is Gathering of masses.
All are born equal and shall die equal.

Properties of citizens will be curtailed if it exceeds 1 lakh gold coins and 2 house ,10 cattles,50 kos of land. This shall be applicable to royal families of Magadh. Today myself ,my wives and my family members are surrendering extra jewelries to Magadh Raj khazana. It will be used to eradicate poverty in Magadh.

Education is compulsory for all Children irrespective of Sex. Even girls are to be educated.Education only eradicates poverty.Schools shall be opened on every locality with aim of giving free education to Children.

Gambling is a heinous crime. Any forms of playing or pledging Gambling warrants death penalty .

Selling or indulging girls in prostitution is not tolerated. I give free hand to any person to take anyone's head if they sell or buy girls in flesh trade.Any citizen who stands against prostitution shall be pardoned if he ,kills the pimp.

From today,I have selected a set of counselors for each province. People of respective provinces can use them as medium and submit their woes. They will come under direct supervisions of my Acharya Chanakya.
These rules are bitter just as medicine which is to be administered for betterment of My people.
Hearty wishes for Vasanth Utsav.
Before I complete, I have to say few things about my family .
Moora is my mother. But for her I will not be alive today.
Chanakya is my Acharya ,who identified me and trained me to become and sustain as King. I want to give Magadh as his Dakshina. BUt he wants Magadh and Bharatvarsh safe and secure. To repay my Guru's debt,I am toiling day and night

Helena is my Dhairya lakshmi. She always stands by me even when I was not a King. She is more my friend,minister than my wife.

Durdhara,though she is not present amongst us is my Rajya lakshmi. She helped me financially and physically during wars and aftermath.Chaya is my Sister,whom I see a person who has sacrificed her life for Magadh.

Last but not least. I have to thank magadhvasis for gifting me Nandini.Who is my GrihaLakshmi. She takes a good care of all of us,without holding any grudge against us .
Nandini was in seventh heaven when Chandra addressed her as his Griha lakshmi.
Chandra's voice was not heard after ,as it was very feeble when Magadhvasi gave him a standing ovation.

Chandra's speech was very good and idealistic. The measures he introduced for public welfare were radical and praiseworthy. I loved the way he called Nandini his Grihalakshmi. But what I loved the most was that he gave equal importance to all his other wives. He acknowledges their role in his life without ignoring them. Awesome chapter!

Loved the comfort level that Nandini has with Chandra, that she even commented about Chanakya. And the comment of CK as his FIL ... Priceless 😊

I like the way you picked cues like Education, Selling girls, Liquor, Surrendering jewels, Equality etc. from the Show and plugged them in the story in a completely different way here.

Loved the Announcements made by King Chandragupta with all authority and care for his Praja. It laid the foundations of Akhand Bharat nirmaan of his reign.

I didn't understand why Chandragupta was making introductions of his mother, guru and wives to public now ? Did he not do it during his coronation ceremony ? Why ? I understand his equation with Nandini has changed now and therefore introducing her in a new light. But why introduce mother and guru now ? And talking about giving the entire Magadh as guru dakshina, in front of the public - could have not received a good response from public and could have resulted in a riot . Unless... you have a reason for this in the coming chapters, I feel this portion was a bit incomplete.

One good thing in your story is that all wives have a healthy relationship between each other and not vamps pitted against each other.

Author's Note

HI,guys for giving me encouragement to write this wonderful story of Chandragupta Maurya,whom I read in history when i was doing my 6 th std. THAT day I was not so serious with Maurya,but after seeing Handsome king in on screen,imagination started flowing often crossed boundaries.

Whenever I sit and write the story,serial face of chandra and other characters comes on my mind. But we have limited or almost no information available on this great king when it comes regards to his personal life...If history is accurately followed,all my story infact serial would be a bunch of joke on great King. StIll,i dont find any point to hate the serial even after cvs fails me everytime. Now coming to story, This story is not an mythological one.its a purely human emotions and struggle of a King be it chandra or Nand or any characters iam trying to draw.

As far as Nandini is concerned, i am trying to build her character from all girls or women whom I have met ,ie like how they react or behave to a particular situation. Even myself have come across many emotional turmoil ,so Naturally these things reflect in my writings . whenever I see Chandragupta as king,or as husband or son, I am writing certain things which I would expect from a king,or husband or son..

Certain benefits of doubt in history always plays a role. Like Chandragupta had how many wives,did he marry Nand daughter or did he had any daughters apart from son. All these unanswered questions including chanakya having daughter are used to fit my needs in the story. History does not support any of these things.

Coming to his announcement to Magadh people, I wrote this part thinking that definitely Chandragupta is a social reformer.It was evident from history that he or his grandson ashoka were against vedis rituals and cast systems. Eventhough Chanakya was a brahmin,Chandragupta did not support openly Vedic culture.thats why after many years later Mauryans were overthrown by Pushymitra sunga,who was a strong believer of Vedic religion.

whether Chandragupta was atheist or not,he definitely supported worship of Lord Krishna. How Iam sure of this point is because of Megasthanes.He was a greek ambassador to Chandragupta and later became a Krishna bhakt. He raised Bhan stamba in vidisha. It was vividly mentioned in his book Indica.

So,After thinking deeply of pros and cons of including certain changes in my story,I am totally justified to write in that way. Hope you all enjoy and a support me..

Recently i have read about excavation at mathura. It seems some 2200 old structure of Krishna temple and idols have been discovered, timeperiod falls on cgm reign.so King is or must have been liberal to Krishna. May be his wife or mother could have been Krishna devotee. Else why would king grant land to A god,whom he wasn't interested. ANOTHER astonishing fact is that lady who commissioned temple was identified as Tora,definitely a mauryan name.so I have given a free pass to justify Nandini as Krishna devotee.According to texts,Durdhara died when he was 23 yrs.and he married Helena when he was 38. I dont think he was a widower for that much long time . chanakya would have not allowed,so he must have been married to someone else along with Durdhara. Whether the marriage took place before or after her death is not known. HE made Durdhara as his patrani.after her demise,no one even Helena was made patrani. IT SHOWS how much he felt for Durdhara. Is it love or guilt . HE could have been guilty, because he was reason for her death.

Coming to my language, i Know its well below standard. I WAS A SCIENCE student always thinking and writing programs,equations etc..to be frank once I reached 9 th std I almost stopped reading English novels. It was a big nono due to lots of competitions..My dad though he was a voracious reader of english books, I did not make use of any of his English books nor inherited his english speaking skills.

After getting married to a typical traditional family, my knowledge have considerably shrinked to basic cooking and home maintenance skills. .Weird isn't it.? Now Iam in a different phase of my life, I am a mother to a naughty toddler. SHE is my life and meaning to my existence.

Only after reading Shailu and stuti ff, I found that I have fallen for Chandragupta. So I am trying to express whatever i felt or feeling on being a daughter, wife,and mother in this story.

HOPE CHANDRAGUPTA's SOUL FORGIVES ME...
