Hello Shyamala, your treatise was more interesting than the episode itself.
I love history and tend to stay away from such historical shows as they butcher the history in the worst possible way. However, the promos were too good and I have to watch it, at least for now.

I hoping that the show is entertaining enough that I can forget it is historical and can treat it in the league of fantasy shows. I think your commentary will help me to do that. 😃

Aunty at last caught up with the episode. Your analysis was very interesting and also riveting to read than the entire episode. If ever there was an eye closer and eye sore as a first episode, this one merited to take that title.

The script of the voice over could have been done in much better fashion instead of driving home the point that this is another JA 2 waiting in the wings. Poor Chandroo damned even before he gets the chance to be born to a Fate similar to Jodha's Jalal!

I slept through the entire yawn and snore worthy romance between Chottey Chandroo's parents. I bet that's why he decided to interrupt it by making his presence felt through that kick.

Then comes the Nand Kishore Peeping Tom bit at Mura leaving a very bad taste in the mouth.

I don't know how others felt about the speeches by the kings. They were definitely trying to emulate a Shakespearean Brutus and Mark Anthony and ended up being purely jingoistic!

Avantika, what can I say about her? Her intellect and brains probably never grew above her knees. Taste bhi koi cheez hoti hai! Kya use Nand Baba hi mile romance karne ko? The most outrageous bit for me in the entire episode was the BGM they gave during the Navantika hug. These two were hugging in a blah manner and a beautiful Shiva stotra was running in the background.

There was one thing which was consistent and beautiful throughout the episode. That was the magnificent sets. Mr Art Director please take a bow! Your work stood out throughout the entire episode!

PS: I really fail to understand this concept of Bharath as motherland! As far as I know, this feeling of all of us being one nation or state is recent. Patriotism in those times was very localized. Our ancestors of those times would have hardly visualized themselves as belonging to the same motherland. Feelings of nationalism were divided more along religious, linguistic lines or the individual states themselves.

The war cries these states used like 'Har Har Mahadev', 'Vazhga Chola Nadu', 'Vazga thamizagam', 'Jai bhavani', etc are a testimony to this attitude. I hardly know if they saw themselves as Indians or a single unified entity. That is why we regard Chanakya and Chandragupt for being truly great because they rose beyond these divisive tendencies and visualized a unified welfare state comprising the entire Indian subcontinent.

Dearest Shyamala!!!!🤗. Happy Dussehra to you, your family and all the friends on your thread.
Thanks so much for your pm. I did not realize that CN was beginning today. I have not had a chance to to watch it as I don't get Indian channels anymore. I have seen the trailers though.

Loved your 2 commandments 😆. Agree with Sandhya in toto! The first one will be easy to keep as all of us have had our fingers burnt with the other show that shall not be named. 😉

Now coming to the second commandment...Please allow me just this once to compare CM with our beloved Jalal. After this I promise not to bring JA in any form. But I too feel that CM does not compare well with our handsome and smashing Jalal. I miss him 😭. There it is out of my system. Now moving on to the episode.. I was startled to hear that the queen of Magadha had numerous illegitimate off springs with a commoner. Forward times indeed 😆. Wonder what other surprises EK has in store for us about the golden age of this mighty emperor of India.

Guy de Maupassant's stories had a strong dose of realism as well as the fanstastic. With EK's script, I am afraid you are going to get mostly the latter 😉. Realism is going to be to much to ask from her

"But this leader chap is no Alexander. In fact he seems to be like modern American tourists, who cannot move a foot in strange places without a tourist guide". - Ha Ha since I am all too familiar with the American tourist, your comment is well appreciated 😆😆😆

I am going to try and stay in here for the entire ride...mainly because of your brilliant episode analyses.

Cheers!!!

Oh, my darling little Shagun, how could I do that? You must forgive me, child.

Your Aunty's grey cells dealing with the short term memory are dying out faster than they are being replaced, that is it. I was looking at Sara's other thread and noted Alakh's Autumn_Rose id there after so long, and somehow that stayed with me and carried over here. I am really, really sorry, my pet!

But WHERE, you disobedient child, is your Like??

Welcome to my threads, my dear Anu. Shall I call you that? I hope we can have you with us for a good while longer.

I think we are all "new" to this time period in so far as what we are likely to be shown is concerned. Whence my First Commandment!😉 But I am glad you enjoyed this post.

Aunty !

First of all, welcome back to the platform of episode analyser. Comparisons apart, it's nostalgic to see you back here and doing this again. The familiar anecdotes, reference to Greek Mythology, subtly leg pulling Ekta Kapoor - and you writing it all. And I am more so excited because whatever be the episodes and storyline, this time around, I will get to hit likes and comment if necessary.

Secondly, the precap was a weird blend of Shakuntala and the latest Telugu blockbuster, Bahubali : the Beginning. Not exactly comparing but just like the vultures had stretched their wings out, sheathing a new born baby Shakuntala, here we had the MAURYAs to do the same.

And the way Mura(?) lifts Chandra up is just like in the movie Bahubali - that said, I didn't know that any of the Nands had been a barber, before ascending the throne. Did you know that Aunty?
That means even if Chandragupta is royalified, Nandni is reduced to only a half-blue blood??!

But despite all these I am still waiting for the upcoming episodes, because it's not in every Kingdom, that one gets to see such barbers with robust musculature, and gymmed biceps 😉

Take care...
Adwitiya. 😊

Oh, my darling Preeti, thank you so much for turning up on this thread on Day 1! I now realise more than ever how much I have missed you and your cool commentaries. And yes, let us both try and stick it out till the end if we can!

Warmest Vijayadashami wishes to you too, and to the whole family.

Jalal, yes, though I am afraid I have had more than enough of him by now on Lashy's threads for her latest novel. One needs to move on, my dear, and to accept that this Chandragupta will be neither as handsome as Jalal in the classical sense nor as roguish as Jalal could be at times.

But on the plus side, he looks harder and less malleable, Bharat Mata's dire pronouncements notwithstanding ( I was pleased that he was not described as a haivaan, but as one of her dearest sons who had upheld her honour and driven out foreign invaders from her sacred soil) and I am looking forward to seeing Rajat do this turn. Plus he has clearly worked hard to tone his physique as well, and needs to be commended for that.

The de Maupassant parallel was just for that bit, not for what surely lies ahead! He is one of my all time favorites among the French writers, along with Balzac and Georges Simenon.

Preeti, a special 🤗for noting and enjoying the American tourist joke. Not even Sandhya has spotted it! There are two more that even you have left out - the Vatsyayana one, which is as close to being naughty as I am ever likely to get, and the one about the wardrobe malfunction. Do go back and see if you like them!

See you again soon.

Affectionately,

Shyamala

Adwitiya!

You wicked child, that last line about the barber had me in stitches! You have hitherto unsuspected (by me, that is!) depths. 😆

I do not expect too much from all this mishmash, except the chance to watch Rajat go thru his paces in a new avatar - Bharat Mata's all too familiar pronouncements notwithstanding. And I am determined, with kind support from you and the rest, to enjoy myself regardless of the insanities the script will undoubtedly dish out.

No, kid, I did not know that one of the Nands had been a barber, but then I do not expect to have known 90% of what lies ahead either!😉 And I have not seen Bahubali.

But the interesting thing is that unlike even the 1990 Chanakya, this one is beginning with Chandragupta's birth. It is to be seen how many episodes are used up before the grown up Chandragupta makes his grand entry. Seeing that all the PR for this show has been focussed on Rajat, and that the young Chandragupta is not a boy wonder like Faisal Khan or Siddharth Nigam, one can hope that the Jr.phase will be mercifully short.

You know me well, my dear, and your opening para is very perceptive. I am most at home in my own threads, doing my own thing, for as long as there is enough of a response. And seeing how physically demanding this has become, I would be wise to stick to briefer posts than was my wont.

See you again tonight.

Subha my dear, and Mahesh too,

I see that you are back on the same old track of bemoaning the ahistoricity of this show, thereby totally disregarding my First Commandment! If you do not relax on this count, this is all that you will be doing for the duration of the serial, and probably get high BP into the bargain.

Chill! What cannot be cured and so on, and then there is always the remote! On purely business grounds, why would Ekta or any other producer give up the brand recognition value of a famous historical name?

This apart, did you two find nothing noteworthy in my post to comment on at all, seeing that you both seem to have Liked it? If so, that is sad. I am always pleased when my readers pick on something or things that I have written and go further from there.

Exactly! What's the point in making serials on historical characters when they show 90% things that DID NOT happen in their lives. It's not that they can't do research on the subject and if they don't want to do,they shouldn't keep fooling viewers by telling that this show is on so n so king who ruled our country thousands of years back.

The thing is nobody takes action against these serial makers that's why they get away with all these.Low trps are not the solution. If one serial's trps are low, they make another serial on another king and show complete fiction. One should take strong action against these people.

Ssadly, political parties make issues for 'not so serious' things and keep quiet on these things.
