I understand, they see a picture which we can't see. I m totally stunned since I have never seen something like this. Seen a mother killing her son so that he doesn't do any more bad. But nothing like this.

But I don't agree with them becoz may be as a viewer I m able to see what Justin wasn't able to see. May be becoz he considers himself as a failure as he couldn't be samrat.

Till day siamak was under Justin,we could see results, even chanakya said siamak is best but u never know what he turns when he grows up as he is Mir khurasan s grandson. I feel if he would grow up under guidance of justin, Justin would bring out the best of siamak, while being under the most cruel people Helena and khurasan, siamak would automatically disqualify from being samrat. Wish Justin would have realised his self, siamak would have great future. Though he doesn't become king but still would remain a good human.

The chances are only comparative.

The lakshyagraha has culminated in such a circumstance that either he or his mother should take the blame and die for it.

He thinks that his mother is a stronger ally for Siamak.

You are 100% right. This is Justin's biggest blind spot.

Royal Life is not about sitting on the throne alone. It is about making yourself fit to sit on the throne.

Siamak under his guidance was a good hearted boy aware of right and wrong and able too - so much that when Chanakya proposes his name as a possibility, even the king cannot deny it. Justin should have realised that under his evil mother's guidance Siamak may lose his bigest advantage - his goodness.

But then Justin has loved his mom so much that he simply cannot see her evil. That is why he has never stood against her during all her evil plots.

But at another angle, he knows that if his mother is declared traitor and she dies, he will not be strong or smart enough to come out of it unscathed, but trusts his mother's smarts to escape unblemished out of any tight spot and be there for Siamak. Which she has done.

Wonderful post Sandhya..this is exactly what historicals need, GRAY characters. We usually end up getting pure white or pure black.

You have described Justin perfectly. What an irony that the one person who actually could have helped Siyamak become better suited for throne had to sacrifice himself. Leaving Siyamak at very vulnerable frame of mind in hands of Helena, Mir and Noor. Noor has not been a totally vile like Charu.

What was staggering was the cowardliness of Niketar!!! He has one foot in grave and could have should have taken all the blame. He should have saved Justin and Helena both. I guess it serves Helena right for trusting him, Justin didn't know him but Helena did.

Helena went along with Justin after learning truth of Siyamak being his son. Still till last minute it seemed not possible that Helena would kill Justin.
For all her love for Justin her greed for power was more. She never really understood what Justin wanted in life, what made him happy - for Helena it was everything about what HER son should get.

Chanakya's dialogues after Helena killed Justin were absolutely vital. Chanakya now has got an enemy who will have public support and Bindusaar's blind loyalty and faith.

Ashoka got a stark lesson to what lengths people can go for the throne.

Things are really nicely poised. I just wish they let Ashoka remain a teenager, don't turn him into Dharma 2!

I don't agree with painting Justin as a weakling. He never wanted the throne. At the same time he wanted his mother's approval. So he was tugged between two equal and opposing forces. He had more shades of grey than any other character. And that's what makes him more interesting than somebody like Ashok who's always picture perfect and never succumbs to temptation.

As for saving only Siamek and Noor, Justin was kept ignorant of the whole plot on purpose. When he finally learned about it, he tried to inform Bindusara that night itself.Unfortunately the king was not available.Thereafter Helena, Nicator and the rest of the plotters made sure that Justin never had a single moment to slip away and inform the king in private. If the whole plot was told to the king in private and in advance there was a chance that Bindusara would have avoided the death penalty and sent Helena to exile. But after the whole public Lakshgraha incident there was no way that it could be kept private.Bindusara would demand the death of the conspirators to pay for the countless deaths in the Lakshgraha.

The fear that his mother would be executed kept Justin silent.

It was a choice between the devil and the deep sea. Mother and son choose an option that is less harmful to their goal and purpose.

Yes. Helena is so hard hearted and cruel that she places her purpose above her son. But that was Justin's wish too. This heard heartedness leaves Chanakya stunned.

They have perfectly showed the wicked aspects of politics for power 👏 👏. That even a mother to gain power, however, indirectly can even scapegoat her son.
