Number 2
It's a bright, new, fresh day, bringing with it a cool scented breeze of wild medow flowers. Nivi is rushing from the wardrobe to the bed with a pile of sarees in her hand, deciding on which one to wear, since today, she's in that jovial, bubbly mood of impressing Viren, like any wife would.
After taking out all the best sarees she has, Nivi puts each one of them next to her in front of the mirror, in a confused state of mind, trying to decide which one to wear. Red, Teal, Green, Purple, Pink, Brown ... Which one would Viren love?
Viren runs suddenly into the NivRen bedroom, tired from his morning jog. He slouches down onto the side of the bed where the saree's are untouched by, just when he notices the rainbow coloured sarees, and a confused Nivi picking and choosing.
Viren then jumps up, and wraps his hands around Nivi, hugging her from the back, and rocking her side to side, with his chin on her shoulder. "Aaj bari confused lag rahi ho tum, bataao naa, kya hua, jaan?" Nivi looks in the mirror, and replies by showing 2 sarees to Viren, and a completly puzzled face.
"Achaa, toh yeh problem hain! Hamaari mumtaaz ko saree pasand karni hain, magar pata nahin kownsi?" To which Nivi nods innocently, still looking in the mirror.
Viren sits back down on the bed again, leaning on his arms, as he says to Nivi "Peysh kiya jaaye" and winks at Nivi 😉
Nivi firstly brings a chocolate brown saree, puts it next to her, and looks at Viren through the mirror. Viren straight away shakes his head in refusal.
Nivi then brings a peach and silver saree, places in next to her, and looks at Viren in the mirror, to which Viren refuses again.
Pink, purple, yellow and ivory, all colours are presented to Viren via the mirror, and at each one, Viren shook his head, refusing.
Nivi was getting tired now, and Viren could clearly see this. "Bas Nivedita, aik aur chakkar marna hain tumhe, aur main haa keh doonga", thinks Viren from within, as Nivi finally brings a teal and silver saree. She hopelessly looks at Viren from the mirror, with weak eyes and a tired smile. Viren at first gives Nivi a "this is impossible" look, to which Nivi looks down in misery. Viren cannot help but keep is laughter in, as he clears his throat, and Nivi, hopefully looks at the mirror again. Viren gradually gets up, and holds her hands from the back that are clasped around the saree, and brings it next to her, giving her a wink, reassuring smile, and whispers "Is main aapke Shah Jahan apni Mumtaz ko dekhna pasand farmaayege", and Nivi cannot help but let out the biggest smile ever, starting from one corner and ending at another, as she runs and puts on the saree.
Nivi finally returns back infront of the mirror, attempting to tie the laces at the back of her saree. 5 minutes later and still no hope as she fails to do so. Suddenly, two gentle hands touch Nivi's as they take over and tie the laces. Nivi with a start glares into the mirror to see that it is Viren, her guardian angel. She modestly looks down, and lets out a slight smile, and Viren sees this, to which he decides and heats the moment up. After tying the laces, he pulls Nivi by the stomach, closer towards him, and huskily speaks, "Jitna socha tha, us se to kayi zyaada tum ne mera dil chura liya, Nivedita", and all of a sudden, Nivi feels hesistated again, as Viren makes her sit down on the stool, and kneels down besides her.
He then examines Nivi, as Nivi looks at him and says "Kya hua, kuch galat hain?". Viren out of horror says, "Kuch kya? BAHAUT kuch galat hain! Tumhara sindoor, tumhaari chooriyan, kaano ke jumkay? Woh sa kahan hain?, aur tum keh rahi ho KUCH galat hain?! Aik kaam karta hoon, aaj main kood apni biwi ko tayyaar karooga!"
Nivi is taken aback by this gesture! "Viren, tumhe sach main larki ko sajaana aata hain?". Viren feeling challenged says "Tumhe kya lagta hain? Main Viren Sood hoon, mujhe SAB KUCH aata hain! Tum bas dekhti jaao mera kamaal!".
And so he begins, perfecting and with his own bare hands, decorates Nivi. First, with the bangles, as he gets a dozen of them, and ever so carefully, so as not to inflict any pain, he 3 by 3, puts them on Nivi's delicate hands. Nivi cannot help but look at Viren with eyes of pride. Viren then finally raises Nivi's hands, and kisses them both.
Next, he, takes out a jewellry set matching Nivi's clothes, and takes out the earings, and cautiously puts them on, kissing each cheek as he does so. Nivi blushes to the fullest extent, as they both meet each others eyes and smile.
Viren finally gets the Sindoor, and lovingly takes a pinch of it, and dutifully applies it inch perfect on Nivi's forehead, and kisses it, before saying "Yeh sindoor ne jis tarah tumhaare sar par aik raasta apne liye banaa liya, waise hi hum dono aik ho kar haamari zindagi ka raasta mil kar paar karenge, yeh mera wadaa hain tum se", and with that, they both gaze at each other, realising how their better half lies within each other.
Suddenly, Viren jerks with a start and excitedly tells Nivi to close her eyes. Nivi, out of habit says "Viren, yeh kya kar rahe ho tum, ab kya hua?", Viren, again, out of habit replies "Are, kabhi toh apna pati par barosa kiya karo, shh, jab tak main na kahoo, aankhe mat kholna!", and Viren opens a small yet beautiful red box infront of her.
"Ab aankhe kolo", and Nivi is left stunned to see the thing she was yearning for, but would never express : HER very own mangalsutra.
"Viren, yeh .. tum .. mere liye? Viren tumhe kaise pata .." "Tumhaari aankhe Nivedita ..." replies Viren, as he takes the mangalsutra out, stands behind Nivi. Taking her hair to one side, he slowly puts in on, as Nivi's eyes fill up with tears of joy as she recieves the biggest gift ever ... a sign of her marriage. She cannot but hug Viren, her life, who in return open heartedly cuddles her back.
