There's one more story which the CVs can add. It is not there is any mainstream Ramayan, but part of the popular folklore.

When Rama was born, Shiva wanted to have his darshan, since he had never seen his prabhu, his araadhya as a baby.

Shiva assumes the guise of an old man and reaches the palace gates, only to find a huge surging crowds blocking his way. There seems no way to get inside.

Meanwhile, inside the palace the baby Rama gets to know that his araadhya Mahadev is at the palace gates unable to come inside.

He (Rama) is about to command the palace guards to let the old man in, when he remembers, in the nick of time, that he is a still baby and supposedly unable to speak yet.

So, Rama does the only thing babies are best at doing. He begins to cry. He cries and cries. Doesn't stop. The raj vaidya is summoned but fails to make the baby stop crying.

The queen mothers are convinced kissi ki nazar lag lagyee. So the hunt begins for a tantrik baba who can remove the evil eye

Fortunately such a tantrik baba was readily available outside and is ushered in with royal respect.

The baby is placed on his lap. Rama looks up at Shiva reverentially and Shiva gazes at Rama in wonder.

Everyone is surprised how the baby stopped crying. Mother Kaushalya asks the baba to foretell the baby future. Shiva begins in right earnest, predicting how Rama will grow up valorous and strong, how he will defeat Marich and Subahu, how he will save Vishwamitra's yagna, how he will break the Shiv- Dhanush and bring Sita home as his bride.

Kaushalya is transported with joy. But being the vairagi he is Shiva cannot understand a mother's emotion and continues in all seriousness. He is about to continue with the story and foretell Rama's banishment, when Rama, understanding what Shiva was about to reveal, yanks the Baba's long beard.

The baba yelps in pain and pauses. The baby Rama gives him a look as if to say "Stop it here, see how happy my mother is? Don't reveal anything that will cause her worry.

Shiva, obeys and hands the baby back to his mother.
